My wife's 2007 C6 automatic makes a strange continuous noise when in Reverse or Drive. This noise is like a warbling noise coming from the accessory drive area or front of the engine. When the shifter is placed into Park or Neutral the noise disappears. Sounds like it is coming from the belt tensioner or one of the brackets is loose. The only issue is why would it go away when there is no drag on the motor; (Park or Neutral) and be constant when in Drive or Reverse. Car runs and drives perfectly otherwise. This Vette only has a little over 3,000 miles. Any suggestions on where to look would be appreciated!
Is it safe to run the engine for a short time with the accessory belt removed? This would determine whether it is a tensioner or water pump. If the noise is still apparent then I would assume that it is the harmonic balancer. It is interesting that the noise disappears when the car is in Park, Neutral, or when you begin to drive and the RPM's increase off of idle.
