Corvette hiatus is over, picked up my new GS yesterday
After being without a Corvette for 5 years, I'm happy to be back in a Corvette. This is my 1st C6; I've had a couple C4s and a few C5's. I liked them all, but definitely feel the Corvette platform has improved with each generation. That's coming from a guy who absolutely loved his C5 Z06 and felt it would be impossible to top (only reason I sold was due to divorce).
I had a hard time deciding if I should pick up a nice low-mileage '07 or '08 Z06 or a new GS. I'd love the additional power of a Z06 but just too nervous about picking one up used that hasn't been abused.
I was looking for a fairly bare-bones car as I'm more interested in the performance than gadgets. I picked up a 2LT which was readily available. I do think I'll end up with a couple add-ons over time; I like the HUD and I'll definitely add the "homelink" (I know it's not really Homelink anymore) visor. My only disappointment with the car is that it didn't come with such a basic option. No biggie to add it though.
I'm also planning on a set of wheels. I really like the GS wheel design but I feel the silver wheels on a silver car lacks contrast. We'll see though, maybe I'll learn to appreciate the look.
After taking delivery, I took my wife out to a nice dinner. We then popped the top and had a great time out for a nice summer evening cruise. She had never spent much time in a Corvette and fell in love with the car during our cruise. I had exactly 100mi on it when I pulled it into the garage after our inaugural cruise. I hope I didn't wear it out.
Here's the obligatory pics:

Congratulations. Looks very nice.
I like the silver wheels on the silver car, in fact I think the silver wheels looks really good on several other colors also. The other choice for it, if you were to change them would be the chrome Z06 spyder style wheels.

Thanks for the welcome back everyone.
I plan to return to autox as well so I think the stock silver wheels will be used for my race rubber. I'm actually looking at picking up a set of the polished Z06 split spoke wheels that are so reasonably priced in the classifieds right now for my street tires.
Will do, thank you for the link!
It's been a while since I was in my C5 Z06 and I didn't test drive a C5 before buying this car. I believe this car is on par performance-wise with the C5 Z06; however after I drove my car last night with the top out, I missed my C5 Z06 a lot less. I forgot how much fun it was to pull the top and cruise. It was a difficult decision between picking up a C5 Z06, C6 Z06 and the GS. I know the C5 Z06 is in a different price range, but I really loved mine and it was a known quantity.
Nice choice with the manual transmission, dry sump Wixom built motor.
