Default Need help!

Looked at a 06 C6 last night with 10k I was wondering what normal wear would be the the tires I understand the rears are going to go quicker due to spinning but the fronts looked like they were 3/4 gone is that normal? Also is there suppose to be a sticker on the passenger door? There was not one on and the guy told me that the window was replaced on that side after I discovered a piece of glass behind seat. Any help appreciated. Thanks

On a C6 without the Z51 option package, the new tires on the front have 10/32" of tread. The rear tires have 11/32" of tread. The front tires usually need replacing before the rear tires do.

On a C6 with the Z51 option package, the new tires have 9/32" of tread on each of the 4 tires. Since they're also softer rubber, most owners get about 1/2 to 1/3 of the life from their tires as those without the Z51 option package.

Default Tire wear

If it is a Z-51 it will have the supercar tires that many say have not lasted very long. Including me.

On my first C6 the fronts only lasted about 10k miles, and on my second they lasted about 15.

Some people have gotten many more on theirs, but more frequently you hear about the faster wear.

If it is not a Z-51 then it may have been driven very hard or had a mechanical issue causing wear.

It is a Z51 I just thought for such low miles the front would still be good. Carfax didn't show accident I just thought on the inside of the passenger door ther was suppose to be a year sticker?

The production date is on the left door frame.

No stickers on the passenger side door of my '08, but there are 3 stickers on the driver side. One is on the driver side door jamb and shows tire inflation information. Two are on the door itself, one is a label stating that the vehicle is compliant with all federal safety standards at the time of manufacture and includes the VIN, and the other is a label stating that the car was assembled by the UAW at GMs Bowling Green Assembly Plant. The only other factory label of note in the passneger compartment is on the left side of the glove box door and has vehicle option codes printed on it (the options supplied on the vehicle from the factory).

10K and 3/4 left on the fronts is doing pretty good for the Supercar tires. The fronts typically wear FASTER than the rear on these cars unless you are constantly turning off the nannies and smoking the tires. Check the inside edges of the front tires. The alignment specs for Z51 will cause much faster wear on the inside than the outside and many people report finding bare cords on the inside when they thought the tires were fine by the way most of the tire looked.

But don't despair. You don't have to pay an arm and a leg for SC tires to still get the performance you expect from a Z51 package. Firestone Firehawks have better traction, IMHO, last twice as long and cost half as much.

I forgot to mention that I had to replace the front tires on my 06 C6 coupe (w/o Z51 option) at approx. 30K miles. One OEM rear tire still had lots of tread left. The other rear tire was replaced about 2 years ago because of a puncture too close to the sidewall to be repaired.

By 32K miles I had gone through 2 sets of Goodyear Supercar tires on my 06 Z51. I'm now running Michelin PS2 ZP's and loving them.

If you like the car - get it! Tires are an item that will sort itself out! O E M tires wear out FAST, I went to Firestones on my 2nd set.

11k mi. on my '06 and the OEM GY's were 3/32 front and rear, trashed them and bought Michelins. Also No sticker on my passenger side door, only drivers side.

Fronts on my GS near gone at 11k miles. Back had some life in them, but changing brands so replaced all four.

I'd say a Z51 06 w/ 10k miles, the tires would be more than 1/2 gone, normally.

It's actually a good thing -- it lets you negotiate a lower price!

And you get to choose the kind of new tires YOU prefer.

Anyway, since they're 5-6 years old, you'd probably want to replace all 4 tires soon REGARDLESS of tread depth.

Bottom Line: You'll enjoy your new C6 a whole lot more with a new set of tires.

Congrats-in-advance!

I have had a '09 C6 Z51 vert w/supercar tires. They were half gone at 8k miles.

I have now my '10 Z06 w/supercar tires. 7k miles and their half gone. I'm going to Michelin's PS ZP's when GoodYears are done.

I think it honestly has something to do with the tires. I think they are softer or harder and this is what causes the tread to go down quicker.

The fronts should go a little quicker than the backs though. A lot of guys just buy new tires right out of the gate I have noticed because they have a preference.

I hope this helps.
