Last week I went to the Spring Mounain driving school. (Great experience for.. for another post) At the end of the day, I went to the car ('10 ZR1) and it wouldn start. No lights - nothing.
One of the instructors jumped the car, it started fine. At idle, the batt volts were about 12.8 and 13.3 when you rev it up. I took it to Pahrump Valley Auto Plaza (chevvy dealer) at 4:30 pm. They took it right in and put it on their analyzer. I turned out the battery was discharged but said the charging system was ok. They charged the batt and I drove home with no problems.
At home, I put it in accessory mode, walked away for 30 min, It turned off accessory mode.
I turned the ignition on, walked away for 30 min. When I came back the message on the DIC said something like " conserver battery mode" but the lights and all were still on.
Back to Spring Mountain. I came out at noon to get something out of the car. It was very hot inside so I lowered the windows. a couple of inches. I assume that I must have left the ignition on.
Two points:
1. Evidently the iginition does not turn off by itself. (news to me, I thought it turned itself off)
2. The normal voltage for a charged battery is about 13.8 volts.
Mines an '06, so I'm not sure if the newer ones are programmed differently. My "ignition" (red light) shuts off if the door is opened or after 10 minutes if the door isn't opened. The accessory mode (yellow light) seems to shut off after 20 minutes, but can be reactivated if the door is reopened. It seems to follow the program the lights take to time out if you leave the door, hatch or hood open. I've never purposely clicked the ignition on after opening the door and leaving the car so I'd have to try that to see what it does.

On our 2006 amd 2009, you can lower the windows and do similar stuff in Accessory, no need to use Ignition On and be running the fuel pumps, etc.
Our Accessory position does not turn off when we open the door, that only happens if the car is in Retained Accessory Power after shutting down the engine.
Accessory is supposed to time out after a while but i never tested that feature.
For future reference when you attend Spring Mtn. you can give them your FOB while out on the track and they will move your car from the hot parking lot to their shop where their cars spend the night. Plus give your car a full exterior detail. This prevents your car sitting out in the baking heat all day while you are out on the track. Nice when class is over and they bring your car around the back of the Corvette bldg and it's not blistering hot inside.
Hope you enjoyed your track experience with Rick and the SM crew.
A battery in good condition at rest, not being charged, should have 12.8 volts. A battery under charge should be at least a volt higher. Your battery voltage seems low to me.

The voltage you are seeing on the DIC is the charging system, not true battery voltage.
I only recall turning on acc mode, but based on the evidence, I must have turned on the ignition. I was just suprised to learn that it does not turn off by itself. I had an 06 and I don't ever recall having this problem.
The batt voltages were as read on the DIC. I didn not have a meter with me to check. I was also suprised that 13.8 is an ok running voltage. Older cars used to be a little over 14.
George; Thanks for the info. I didn't hear about parking it out of the sun or detailing.
