Default Headlight replacement?

I have a scratch on the driver's side headlamp of my Silver C6 that is bothering me.

Instead of replacing the whole assembly, I found a replacement lens on ebay that I could buy and change out myself. Does anyone know the process it takes to change the lens and has anyone bought one of these?

I'm thinking I would have to cut it out and use silicone to secure the lens back together.

I'd rather spend the $139 for the lens than $350-$500 for a whole assembly.

do some searches on here... most will say its impossible but it isnt.

First disassemble the headlight. You will have to heat your oven, turn it off and throw the headlight in. Let it come to temp and start to work the lens off. Use flathead screw drivers with a blow drier to keep the area hot. When it cools, reheat the oven, turn it off, and throw the light back in. It usually takes 6-7 cycles to get it off.

There are a few good threads on here about it. Ive done a few as well as some from others cars as well. It is possible, but be patient, take your time, and dont force anthing too hard.

I just did it, not the easiest thing in the world to do but got it done.
Instructions come with the lense too.

It can be done. As far as I'm concerned, the heat method is really not recommended for these lens, the best course of action is to cut the old lens off with a dremmel along the assembly line on the underside. The lens are held on with a Urethane bond adhesive (very similar to the adhesive used to hold windshields in place). Once the old lens is cut free make sure you clean all of the old adhesive out of the recess that the new lens will fit in to.

Heating them will soften them but there is a very high risk of damaging the lens or the assembly as there is a very fine line between enough heat to soften the adhesive and too much heat for the plastic components.

Regarding that particular auction you listed, you can buy from that seller with complete confidence.

RLSebring will sell/install new lenses.
Not sure of his price, but it's a lot less than a new GM assembly.

I got mine from him and followed his instructions, make sure you get the right tools and follow them and you will be fine doing it yourself.

And $300 to $500 won't get you a new assembly...closer to $1,000 if you get a deal. So it's worth putting a little effort into replacing the lense.

The current (July) issue of Corvette Magazine has the procedure. It's not easy, but possible.
