Default Supercharger question

I know this is general but more people frequent this section the the fi section. Ordered an a&a sc kit from forum vendor HP sales. Doing the kit, new radiator, headers, and new exhaust. Here's the question. Is it necessary to change the stock hood? Im guessing yes. I'd prefer to go stealth with stock, but Ill make the change if there is a marked difference in cooling. Hood recommendations? I've been online all night making myself nuts

I was told that A& A SC would fit under the stock hood by the Vette mechanic that just did my exhaust. Good choice my friend, same mechanic said it was the best designed that he has put in.

Thanks guys, I know it fits but what about the heat? Wouldn't it run cooler with a hood that lets some of the hot air out?

Your all good with stock hood. If you wanted you could spend the extra $$$$ but it not necessary at all.

With a centri ITA's shouldn't be a big issue even in Florida. Cooler is always better when running boost but it's a larger issue with PD types (E-Force, etc) like I'm running. I would use the stock hood providing everything fits.

REMEMBER tuning is EVERYTHING! Assuming a competent install tuning is the difference for a good "SAFE" performing system. There are many hacker/whackers out there that are clueless how to properly tune SC systems! You've also introduced in some variables such has headers. I WOULD NOT let anyone tune unless they have tuned a lot of these systems. A mistake can result in an instant anchor.

Read the FI section and you'll discover there are many facets that make for a good reliable blower system........ I'm confident you're really going to enjoy the new found power! I'd also recommend getting used to all the additional power before putting your foot in it. I hope you enjoy replacing tires because you'll be roasting them now..
Good luck....................

Thanks for the answer Craig I've been obsesively reading since I pulled the trigger on this thing last Wed. I think I've picked a good shop. HP Sales has done some sick rides for a couple of guys I know and they've been trouble free for years, they're a Forum vendor, and have a great reputation. I was always under the impression that less heat is best but I'd prefer to remain stock in the hood. Thanks for the advice. I'm gonna take it

you added a new radiator, presume it's some aftermarket to handle more heat, right? that should help. anything about coating the headers for less reflective heat in the engine bay?

Scary quotes aside, if you run any sort of forced induction, its a wise idea to get a wideband and monitor your AFR. I don't care who tuned it. Also not a bad idea to log to make sure you don't have any knocking.

... I know lots of installers say coating doesn't make a temperature difference but I've seen data that STRONGLY suggests otherwise. I personally WOULD NOT run headers without Jet Coat or equivalent! My guess is the installers make no extra money from the coating, need to be careful installing and they do need to go to coater! So they say it makes no temperature differental but they can sell that on e-bay...

I sure like the idea of keeping the stock hood and going stealth...understated is nice!

Steve.... get them coated! Makes the engine bay took great and does reduce the heat! Also keeps them looking good the entire time you have the car................. Do a goggle search and you will find many have proved coated headers run substantially cooler..

Parts will run cooler when coated with a thermal barrier (ceramic coating for exhaust systems), allowing engine oil and water temperatures to show a reduction. The radiated heat on headers will be substantially reduced leading to lower under hood temperatures and less heat absorption by nearby parts and surfaces. This is also a benefit for motorcycle exhaust coating to reduce the temperature rising towards the rider.

Nitroplate in Tennessee is their first stop before they "Head to Fl" Thanks Craig. This is starting to get a bit heavy on the wallet. Starts at 7K for the "package".....then come the other necessities..over 12K now and counting...AND of course the clutch gets replaced in a month or so!
