Loud click when breaking
Hey everyone, I have this really annoying click sound every time my 06 auto comes to a near stop. It does it almost every time I hit the breaks, slowing to around 8mph. Its a click like a snapping carrot and seems to come from the center of the car, more towards the rear.
Its not associated with the breaks because it will still do it if I coast and slow to around 8-10mph.
Just wonding if someone else expierienced this with a solution before I take it to the stealership, its driving me craaaazy
Agreed. I hear the relay coming ffrom the vicinity of the fuse box area anytime I step on the brake. I assume it is what releases the locking mechanism for the auto shifter. Might be wrong though.
99% sure it's the brake relay in the fuse box under the passenger footwell. There was a TSB for it a few years ago, but I don't remember '06s being affected by it. It could be that yours just went bad. No biggie, take it to the dealer an have them replace it, it's cheap.

The loud brake relay is an ongoing problem. You will find posts saying to get them to change the relay however the noise may still be there. This problem is even on current 2011 models and will probably surface on 2012 models as well. I think GM changed the supplier of the relay a few years back and depending on what your dealer has in stock the problem will be solved or will remain the same. Just get used to it and turn the radio up.
I wondered what that was as I hear it as well when it's quiet and it happens every time I touch the brake. Wasn't worried about it just thought it was weird.
It's not the brake light relay. The OP says right in his post "Its not associated with the breaks because it will still do it if I coast and slow to around 8-10mph."
If it doesn't do it by pushing on the break but still does it at 8mph it might be something happeningint when the transmission goes in first. Try manually putting it into first or second and doing the same thing.

Thanks everyone for the possible solutions. Ill try GMANS transmission test and see what happens.
Its def not the relay because it comes from under the car and passangers agree its an area behind our seats. Plus the noise isnt associated with the breaks.
Gotta be the transmission GULP!
BTW, I couldnt find anything loose under the car.

Mines doing the same thing. I'm taking it to hp sales to check it out.

If you keep the gearbox in 1st and drive at, say, 4500rpm, and then let off the gas abruptly, does it make the sharp snap sound? Then, if you get back on the gas (still in 1st) somewhat hard, does it make the sound again?
If it does, it sounds like the splined interface between the half-shafts and the rear wheel hubs is dry and needs to be greased.

TT, I will try your suggestion today. Heres what I learned from last drive
1-Does it sometimes when coasting down to around 4-8mph
2-Does it sometimes when applying the brakes and the car hits 4-8mph
3-does it in all modes. Sport, regular auto or using the paddles manually
4-Tranny goes in 1st gear around 8-10 so its not a 1st gear thing (and hopefully not the tranny!)
Sometimes its a single loud POP and sometimes its a quick double pop.

Exactly what I was told, but HP sales said that they have replacement bolts in stock because of it. He just needs to hear the car in person and see if that is indeed the problem. I will know more in 2 weeks.
