Tell you about my 2011 GS that I bought last week .... I was looking under the hood. There are 2 wires taped together with black elecrical tape that attach to the brake master cylinder (my guess is that they serve to tell of a low brake fluid level in the reservoir).
Well, the wires have been crushed by something during install. The electrical tape is tore off where the wires are crushed. One of the 2 wires is completely split in two, and the other wire is all frayed showing the copper braiding of the wire. The whole thing looks really 'ratty'.
The strange thing is that I don't have a brake light on even though one of the wires is broken completely in two and separated at least 1/2 inch.
I wish I had my Cannon digital camera, but my wife left the battery charger and the interface wire that goes between the camera and a computer back in the Philippines when we moved here to the US ... so, no photos.
How GM did not see this during assembly is beyond me.
Anyway, I will get this fixed under waranty next time I go to the local Chevy dealership.
Sure wish I had a photo to show you the badly damaged / crushed wires that are in fairly plain view.
Back to dealer yesterday morning and just received an update from the Service Manager. Bottom line is the car has not repeated the problem again however they have had a number of the modules disconnected so perhaps there was a loose connection that has is no longer. The GM TAC claims this problem has never been reported so they were no help. I'm going to pick the car up tomorrow and we'll see what happens.
Update:
GS returned to me on 6/30 and away I went. Thirty minutes later same error messages returned so I turned around and went back to dealer. Vehicle was in service department until 7/21. The ECM and BCM were replaced and all was well for 300 miles and you guessed it this last Monday exact same messages returned so back at dealer for 4th go around.

I'm a little concerned that this dealer may just be being stubborn. They should be involving TAC (Technical Assistance Center). Who beyond their four walls have they involved at this point?

TAC has been involved from the beginning. Claim they have never seen this problem before. They approved the ECM & BCM replacement. Dealer is waiting for direction from TAC before proceeding and response has been painfully slow.

Your car may be covered by the Lemon Law if all of the following have happened:
•The problem occurs in some part of the vehicle that is covered by the manufacturer's warranty and you are within the warranty period. It does not need to be something that keeps you from being able to drive the car. For example, faulty air conditioning or peeling paint could be considered defects under the Lemon Law.
•You tell the manufacturer about the problem in writing and give them a reasonable period, but not more than 15 days, to fix it.
•The manufacturer makes “a reasonable number of attempts” to fix the vehicle. This means that the car has been repaired for the same problem four or more times, or that it has been out of service a cumulative total of 20 or more business days during a 12 month period of the warranty.
•The manufacturers’ efforts to fix the lemon fail. Under the law, they must either replace your car or buy it back. You get to decide between a comparable new car and a refund.
This is an irresponsible comment. Their quality has been very good for quite a few years. I have not had any issues with 8 new GM cars over the last ten years. You do read about issues here but you are only hearing feedback from the people that do have problems, not the ones that don't. The vast majority of people do not have problems. Do a search on JD Powers. GM and Ford are better than many imports.
I am a Ford guy myself and over the years everything has gotten better, however, this is my first GM and I have been reading thread upon thread about the C6 Vette's, their flagship, and they are riddled with electronic issues, even 6 years later, there has been absolutly no advancement in the Corvette Electronics. I think that is irresponsible! They charge 50K+ for 6 year old technology. But hey, I love my Vette and hope to upgrade to a Z next year.
