Guys, you have to help me. I'm starting to get the urge to trade in my C5 for a newer Vette, for a few reasons. One is the easy performance upgrade, the updated interior, etc. But also because I suspect my Vette (a '99) wasn't always maintained well by previous owners. Buying newer would allow me the chance to treat her right, early on.
I love the smooth C5 body style, but also find myself attracted to the C6 angles.
Any advice on halting these terrible urges?
I was going to buy a C6 3 years ago but my C5 was 4 years old and only 21K miles. I decided to just upgrade my C5. Put new leather 2 tone seat covers, door panels, arm rest, shift boot and ****. I also added a DD Pioneer NAV system which is far superior than the C6 NAV system. I also put 4:10 gears in to give it the off line oomph which is more than a C6 has off the line. I spent a good bit of money but I think what I have is better than a C6 and I spent a lot less than if I had traded mine in and bought a new C6. The interiors in the C6 are still subpar. The NAV system is awful and the 6 speed automatic leaves a lot to be desired. Forum members complain about shift points and other shifting issues. Go to C6 General and do some reading. Personally I also don't like the proximity key fiasco. Nor do I like the electric door handles. Now if you want a C6 because of the styling I can understand going for it. You can always upgrade the interior. My friend has a C6 Z06 and I have driven it. It does drive nicer than my C5 even though I have C6 Z06 shocks and sway bars on my base suspension coupe. I have not driven a C6 coupe to compare with mine.
Wish I had the 430/436 horsepower and extra displacement/torque of the newish C6s, but the styling of the C5 Coupe has it all over the C6 (for me, at least). And more gimmicks on the C6? Please--the C5 is bad enough.
I traded my '01 Vert for an '07 Coupe. Sure, there were refinements but I had already surpassed the engine performance of the C6 with the mods I did to my C5. I really never grew to like it as I thought I would. So, I traded the '07 Coupe for a '10 Dodge Challenger and purchased a low mileage (19 K) '99 Nassau Blue FRC. I am totally happy and proud to be a C5 owner.

The money you will spend on sales tax alone could go a long way toward that supercharger, or many other mods to your C5. Why give it to your state treasury, when you can keep your C5 and upgrade it, like so many of us do, and are happy with it....remember, it is the 'corvette experience' you desire, doesn't always have to be the latest offering from GM.
I love my C5, vert, 41k miles, 611HP and ALL PAID FOR! The C6 is nice, but the styling of a C5 is way better. I may think about a C6Z in the future after the C7s come out and they drop in price.
What ever you chose, its's still a Vette! Good luck and make sure you drive a few C6s before you make your decision!

This is the best reason for considering the move to C6. On the other hand, if you buy used, you won't necessarily be any better off.......
If you just want a C6 you'll find a reason one way or the other.
If you just want better performance, drop your car off at Mike Norris' for a week and you'l be spanking C6's on a daily basis for a LOT less money.

Nothing wrong with going up to a C6 - I too like the cars and I have thought about what it would have been like to have bought a C6 instead of the '03 C5 is did purchase. I don't regret though buying the C5 - mainly because it was more in the price range I was willing to spend at the time and it only had 8500 miles on it.
If you really have the urge to upgrade, then go drive a few examples and see if they are all you want. If so, go for it. You only live once.
Currently trying to sell my 01' Vert and Harley to jump to the C6 Z06!!! If I was going to make the jump the only way was to get a Z06... Now if my toys would only sell so I could go pick up my new car!!
