I haven't seen any threads on this lately so I thought GM finally fixed it but I guess not. My 2010 GS convertible went
to the shop today for a new headliner. Holes started to appear behind the driver and passenger. The dealer had no problem with replacing it but I'm a little worried that the underlying cause is still out there. I asked him if the reason for the holes would be fixed also and he said they would take care of it. He did not say anything about this being an ongoing problem. I guess all I can do is hold my breath and hope it doesn't reoccur.

It's your car, but IMO I would do something about it other than just holding my breath.
There are numerous threads here about the various pro active measure you can take to insure that your new headliner does not fall to the same fate as the first one did. Obviously something needs to be rectified.
Here's what I did:
Sand the guide rails inside & out to smooth any rough areas that might be the culprit for abrasion to the headliner.
Buy a pack of iron on patches that are 2 ply matching color of liner.
Buy vinyl transparent adhesive or similar product.
Cut the patches to the size needed to cover the hole and rubbing area.
Coat the adhesive side of the cut patch material and apply to the liner area, pressing it down firmly (pull the liner away from the frame.)
Use a hair dryer to the area to facilitate drying.
Note: Do not iron the patch onto the liner. The liner has plastic on the back side which would melt.

Mine is in the shop now as the liner fabric has pulled away slightly (1" or so) at the top left edge, away from the vert frame. They are having an upholstery shop fix it???? We'll see, and it's a delivery fix outside of warranty ... LOL

The upholstery shop fix is common...many dealers are just not equipped to do as good a job as they are.
