Lifting pucks are only "necessary" when you take the car to a commercial shop or dealer that uses the "frame" contact type lifts. Without the lifting pucks, those kinds of lifts contact and support the weight of the Corvette on the rocker panels rather than the frame.
The lifting pucks are nice to have available at other times, even at home in the garage, but not necessary as you can arrange other kinds of lifts and floor jacks to contact only the frame, not the rocker panels.
sure, but you dont need them. people use hockey pucks, 2x4s. i personally never used anything till i put my sideskirts on. if you know what your doing and pay attention you wont damage anything.
the big question is you planning on using them with a jack or a lift?
with a jack just carefully place jack stands.
When I first bought my Vette there was a DIY thread about Jacking pucks and a lot of hype about needing them.
Well I made a set from hockey pucks & eye bolts, however I have yet to need these things. I have a lot of work done on my car, but the only hands that ever touch it are expert Corvette tuners/mechanics who know what they're doing.
But *just in case* those pucks lie there, year after year waiting in the cubby hole for that rare event when I just might need them
Just a FYI - Here's a diagram of the preferred lifting points on the C6.
