Can one of you knowledgeable folks out there tell me when GM started to install the console/radio surround trim with chrome accents around the cup holder and shifter boot. I've noticed this feature in newer C6's. I don't have it in my 06

Is that the GM accessory? Do you happen to know the part number. My 06 is a vert with a power top
Are referring to the center console bezel? If so, the one that I installed is a DS Vettes-modified version of the 2008+ style factory part. DS Vettes started with the original factory bezel; they removed the plastic "leather" ("pleather") trim from around the edge and replaced it with genuine stitched leather. I could not be more happy with the result. (DS Vettes gets the bezels directly from a GM parts supplier.)
If you decide to go with this type of bezel (either factory stock or the DS Vettes version), the exact part will differ based on whether or not you have the F55 switch. A tip: Even if you have heated seats, don't spend the extra money for a bezel with heated seat buttons. The buttons in your existing bezel can easily be removed and then reinstalled into the new bezel.

For some reason, I'm not seeing this on their site right now. May I ask what you payed for it? If you don't feel comfortable disclosing in public, could you PM me?
While I personally prefer the '08+ style of center console, if you are just interested in having your trim rings done in chrome for your '06, APsis can do that for you.
One of the cooler features available from DSV is, if you have a two-tone interior, they can match it with a two-tone leather bezel surround.

To be honest, I'm not 100% certain as I bought it several years ago. I think it was around $695 as you see it. I know that this sounds steep but keep in mind that it's not uncommon to pay $400 - $500 for just the bezel without the leather work. What I remember distinctly was that Gerardo at DS Vettes charged me quite a bit less for the bezel itself than I could have bought it for from any of the parts suppliers; he then simply added on his standard charge for the leather upgrade.
I want to be very clear in saying that while I wouldn't call DS Vettes inexpensive, the quality of their materials, workmanship, and customer service are absolutely top-notch. As you can see from the photos, my 2005's interior has come a long way from how it left the factory and it's all due to DS Vettes.
Another great thing about their work is that their leather parts blend in perfectly with the factory parts. None of them look aftermarket - they all look like they could have been installed at the factory.
I am confused. Are you guys stating it will cost hundreds of dollars to simply replace the part for the center console to the 2008 style?
Yes. The least expensive version of the 2008-style center console bezel (no heated seat buttons, with F55) will cost around $500 after discounts. The full retail price of the part is over $700.
