Bought A 2008 C6 coupe with 10000 miles. Shortly after, squealing noise in engine. Corvette garage replaced serp. belt. Ok for awhile and then noise in engine area, sounds like marble/bearing rolling around. Belt keeps getting torn and partly ripped right off. Gone through 3 belts. Anyone have any idea. It doesn't do it all the time. (Tension pulley?)
harmonic balancer issue maybe check it with the engine idling and see if you have any wobble on the "crankshafts pulley" You may have a little bit but too much is bad I'd say by eye more than 1/16 of an inch wobble movement isnt good. In a perfect world no wobble is best. I'd check that first. Also other possibility is crank pulley has backed the bolt out of the crank but you shouldnt have that issue with a 08.
If you're running the A6 Automatic, you most likely have a decoupler pulley on the alternator. It's designed to keep the belt from slipping off during heavy accel/decel, so, check to make sure it is functioning properly. Pull the belt and spin the alt pulley clockwise, It should be effortless. Counter-clockwise, it should have a slight drag without grinding. Just another thought to what others have said. Good luck!
Just a thought, but if you don't have any engine mods, I would think that this situation should be covered by your powertrain warranty; it's good for 5 years or 100,000 miles. I'd get a Chevy dealer with a Corvette tech involved.
