Finalist 2020 C7 of the Year -- Unmodified
Are the people who are buying GRAND SPORTS the people who would MOD their C6 anyways?
Are the people who are buying the Grand Sports the people who would mod the narrow base body C6 anyways. Before the GS came out in 2010 seemed like alot of people would mod out the regular body C6 with wider tires and body kits rims ETC. for a unique look. I like my car completely factory stock so the narrow body suits my likes fine. The Grand Sport definately sticks out more with the wider body gills badges rims etc.So are the guys that are buying the Grand Sport model the ones that would have done lots of MODS to the narrow body C6 anyways. Thanks ALWAYS RED DAVE :

Perhaps it is just that people like having one more option from the factory.
An assumption can be made in the opposite direction. A base car offers a 'cleaner slate' to start with at a lower cost for those that know they will build their own unique car.
But for those that like the larger wheels and brakes and wider body to house them, the GS is a good value from the factory with no hassle.

Nah, No mods here other than the M2W, I love my grand Sport…!
It was alot less expensive to buy the GS, than try and trick out a Coupe.
The GS gave me everything I love about Corvette and alot more…. ! !

Drifting
95% of Corvette buyers do NOT modifiy their cars beyond a license plate frame. The people who post here, do wide body conversions, add blowers, etc are the
EXTREME Minority.
I like the wide body look...I've owned 2 prior C5 Z06's and 1 C6 Z06. Arm and ankle issues for a bit require a lighter load...thus an auto for the time being.....GS was thus simple...wide body with auto and pop the top. Simply Z06 looks without the Z06 price tag.
Why it is all the rage with 'normal' buyers (besides dealers mainly stocking them) - it is simply a better looking car for the majority (not all). Just like the Z51 option was all the rage pre GS...For $1500 you got a phoney "Z" name and the bling brakes....95% of the Z51 package buyers bought it for that reason....no intention of tracking, no need for the coolers...just 'cool' looking brakes. Thus GM woke up and gave the masses what they wanted....Z06 body but with pop top, auto, much lower price.

I was looking at used base coupes, and had no intention of mods other than stereo... then the GS comes down to where its only a couple K more than a base.. for a much better car... easy choice..

In my case I fundamentally do not mod my cars, and those changes that I make can be done, with little time, very few tools and can be undone just as easily. So no I would not have taken a coupe and converted to a wide body.
However, I do change my cars somewhat more frequently than average.
My C6s have been as follows:
2005 Coupe, Z51, Manual
2007 Coupe, F55, Manual
2009 Coupe, Z51, Manual
2011 GS Coupe, F55, Manual
Plus one for my wife and daughter to drive: 2009 Convertible, Paddle Shift Auto
So it is pretty easy to see the pattern here. With changing cars as regularly as I do, I suffer from that form of Corvette sickness rather than Mod Fever. The GS allowed my to combine both the Z51 and F55 suspensions. Plus gave me different look than my prior 3 C6 Coupes. And it was less costly and less work than doing the change after the fact. All in all it was an easy decision in my case.

I never do engine mods, suspension mods, or change out any "mechanical" parts.
I too change cars very frequently. My C6 history is:
- 2005 F55 Manual Coupe
- 2006 Z51 Coupe
- 2008 Z51 Coupe
- 2008 Z51 Vert
- 2008 Z06
- 2009 Z51 Coupe
- 2010 GS Coupe
- 2011 GS Coupe
I have modded sound systems (head units, amps, speakers), Changed Wheels, M2W on all 2008+, changed arm rests, Lloyd Mats, a few trim pieces, etc...
I always feel that they come from the factory with a certain performance claim and who am I to know better.

Advanced
My observation is that some (smallish) percentage of owners live for performance... and the bigger group is looking for style, fun, envious others, etc. wrapped into a well performing package.
That is the Grand Sport. Unless you really are willing to go on steroids with the ZR1.
