When I push the button, the ignition spark sounds like it is in the center console/passenger glove box before starter cranks. With the battery in the back (MN6), is there an interconnnect in the area that may be sparking? Or has everybody got this sound?

Mike2010GS and wwwFLA, are you guys thinking about getting this checked out at all? Since I’m not a technician I was hoping someone else would chime in on if they experience this sound also. Not sure if it’s considered normal or not.

Hi Laura,
I think it is normal. Was never a concern of mine. It would be nice to here if everyone else has the same sound when starting.
Thanks,
Mike

Laura,
I was going to have them check it on my first visit back to the dealer which I've not planned for anytime soon. Seems normal from all that has been said. Just a little strange to me not having had a button before now.
I am no expert, but the 2011 GS I bought last week has a noise a little like sparking when I press the break and start etc. I figured it was just the total awesomeness of the car, but I'm an optimist

The sparking sound is OnStar using electromagnetic flux resonance to determine how many people are in the car at the time of start up. This information is relayed to the folks at OnStar so they can forward that info to the EPA for determination of the amount of carbon offsets you'll need to buy
