I bought an OEM Navigation system that came out of a 2005 C6. I had it installed in my '05 C6 by a Chevrolet Dealer. My car came with the premium sound system and the speakers say BOSE on the grilles, so I figured it was just a plug and play install. But the dealer couldn't get it to power up. The unit I bought was working in the original car. They looked up the VIN on my car and they said it should work. Any suggestions??
I have an 05 that came with the Bose system and I purchased a stock 05 NAV and installed it myself. Said another way, the exact same thing you did. It powered up immediately, no problems at all.
It appears that the install was done wrong (something loose?) or there is a problem with the system. I would also check to see if there is a separate fuse for the radio or the amp.
As noted by Dave, if it is an '05 nav and going in to an '05 with Bose it really is plug and play. In my opinion, something either was wrong with the head unit or something went wrong with the install.
Thanks Dave,
I think you might be right on. I think the install was not done correctly. I think the dealer didn't program the BCM for the new unit. I'm taking it to another dealer to see if they can diagnose the problem. I appreciate your input.
Gotta be install or head unit. Even if the BCM hasn't been reprogrammed yet the nav should power up. It should say "theftlock activated" if I remember correctly.
I hope its just a bad connection. I checked the radio code in the glove box and it was listed as "US9" Radio-AM/FM Stereo SEEK/SCAN/RDS, Multiple Compact Disc, CD, AUTO TONE Control, CLOCK, ETR, MP3. I believe it is the code for the premium sound system.
I have an appointment with another GM Dealer in my area. They are going to look at the installation of the unit and determine if it is the unit or the way the other dealer installed it. Once I know, I'll post it on this thread.
After two dealerships, it turned out the unit must have been bad. Neither dealer could get the unit to power up. The installation was fine, but apparently there was an internal problem. So its going back under warrranty and I am now in the market for another "gently" used OEM navigartion system for my car.
I have a 2005 factory navigation unit. Works great and is still in my car but I want to go aftermarket on the navigation unit. My car just turned 9,000 miles so its still like new. I actually have the dash console out right now for painting. Let me know if you are interested.
Our 2006 would do that, in some areas but not in others.
The 2007 disc was better.
Our current 2009, disc(s) updated to 2010, 2011, 2012, and now 2013; has never done it.
What year car and disc do you have?
(nothing in your profile)
I have a 2013 with the current Nav and have similar problems. I went for a ride through southern Ocean County here in NJ and eventually got myself lost and hit the home button on the Nav. The Nav kept telling me to make right and/or left turns were there was only woods. I was in the Pine Barrens section of Ocean County. Luckily the road I was on eventually lead me to the GSP to get home.
Occasionally, our earlier nav and discs would interpert a bend in the road as a turn, and tell us to turn there. Current unit hasn't done that yet, IIRC.
I've driven in places were roads had been officially established but never graded/paved, both C6 nav and Garmins sometimes want us to use the non-existant roads.
The factory nav has areas of "non-detailed coverage", it seems to show all the roads but can't calculate a route very well. But I've never had it give me a bad routing there, it just shows no route at all until up ahead in a "detailed" area.
Aside from those issues, I've never had "phantom" turns.
But, never trust an electron..

I have the latest disk in my 08 and noticed the Nav suggesting I turn when it was just a curve in the road, only happened this one time.
