Default Got a little problem!!!!! Help please!!!

My outside temp reading is way off. It reads about 8 degrees off on the high side. Is there a way to calibrate this to get it to accurately give me the temp?

I know what some of you are going to say, like just minus 8 degrees and then you'll have the correct temp. If you can't give constructive help then please keep it to yourself.

Thanks in advance for your help!!!!

Probably need a new sensor. They are cheap and easy to replace.

I noticed mine (11 GS) takes a LONG time to change when moving from a cooler to warmer or vice versa. Almost 5 minutes of driving.

I think that sensor is located in a space near the passenger side of the radiator, toward the front . I don't know about calibration, but its probably relatively easy to replace. Also check to see if it shifted position and is perhaps getting a sniff of the radiator. If you have access to a scanner, see if the scanner ambient reading agrees with your observations.

In the manual, it tells you that you must maintain a speed of at least xx for xx amount of minutes for the temp display to correct itself. It's like 35 MPH for 10 minutes or so. I'll bet there's nothing wrong with your temp sensor. It's programmed that way so as to not have your climate control chase the temps all over the place.

Please give us a little more detail. Is it simply always 8 degrees off? The default value for a defective outside temperature sensor is 75 degrees F. Of course if it is functional it is possible for it to have been damaged such that it doesn't read correctly.

That is design intent. The outside air temperature value is displayed or updated under the following conditions:

Condition
Display

At start up with the engine OFF more than 3 hours
Displays actual outside temperature

At start up with the engine OFF less than 3 hours
Displays last stored temperature

Vehicle moving above 16 km/h (10 mph) for 5 minutes
Updates temperature display at a slow filtered rate.

Vehicle moving at 51 km/h (32 mph) or greater for 2.5 minutes
Updates temperature display as rapidly as possible.

When the sensor reading is less than the displayed value.
Updates temperature display as rapidly as possible.

When the Front Defrost, Rear Defog and fan up buttons are pressed simultaneously.
Updates temperature display instantly.

This prevents the HVAC from over-reacting to abnormal ambient conditions (sun beating down on a parked car in the summer or window left open during the winter)

And if you carefully push the first, second and fourth buttons from the right ( on the climate control panel) simultaneously, it overrides this delay and immediately displays the temp at the sensor.

Nope, just buy a new one and see how that one works out.

Are your lights responding to sunlight/darkness correctly when they are set to 'Auto' mode on the stalk?

The sun-load sensor in the dash (little bubble-like thing sticking up in the center speaker grille) has the dual function of controlling the HVAC and lighting system.

As others have stated, it's pretty easy to replace, if need be.

Not sure if there is another additional HVAC-related sensor somewhere else.

Yes it is functional. I drove the car from Phoenix to Houston and to work and around town. The temp has been consistently 7 to 9 degrees too high. It was 108 in Tucson and my temp says 115. 97 in Houston and was 105 on the read out. So it is functional just off. I will check out where it is. It could be too close to the radiator but I would think it would be reading a whole lot higher and not so consistently higher. Thanks
