Default Targa Top help

hey guys, i have a c6 coupe with a targa that i take off very often. However, its becoming a real pain. I always feel really awkward carrying it and i always have trouble getting it in correctly while re-installing it. I was just wondering if anyone had any tips. thanks a lot

Here is a video that shows a good way to remove and reinstall the top:

Doesn't get any easier than that video shows. Maybe your short? That would make it tougher. Take the top off a lot, do ya? Maybe its time for a vert.

ya....im a bit shorter and thats probably why. 5'10. As for the vert, i couldnt really justify spending the 6-7K more to get one since the coupe has the targa anyways . Hopefully i will eventually become a pro

That video actually glosses over the one tough part of removing the top. When I take it off I have one hand in front and one in back (just like in the video). If you notice in the video they cut away and when he goes to put the top in the trunk, his hands are at the sides of the top. That's cheating! The only part of removing the top that I find awkward is putting the roof in the trunk with my hands still at the front and back.

I usually have to rest the top on my shoe to re adjust my grip to the sides.

After doing it many times its pretty easy now. The only thing I do different then the video is install it in the trunk standing to the side. I don't change my hand positions .

Skip trying to switch hand positions, it's not needed.

Never thought of standing to the side. I'll try that today. I can get it in without adjusting my hands from the rear, but it is awkward.

Why not try a suction-cup handler <CLICK HERE> they're just $13, maybe use 2. I think this would be a great assist ...

Note: They also have a single-cup model ...

I don't switch hand positions either. I just lean over the back end.. pretty easy actually.

I wish my rear pins went in as easily as it does on the video, when installing it. My 2010 I had was no problem, but on the 2011 I have a real tough time getting those rear pins to seat.

One key thing here that they don't mention (it shows in the video though) is make sure you do this with the door open. This lets you get a lot closer and have better control of everything. Also a set of garden gloves with those little rubber dots will help. I keep a set in my storage hole incase I have to put the top back on when it's windy.

I'm an inch shorter than you are and have zero problems - this is my fifth Corvette in the past 20 years. During the spring, fall, and on nice winter days the top comes off....

Did the move where you put the top in the trunk while standing at the side of the car. We have a winner! Much easier.

I pretty much do it as in the video, but must admit the first few times it was a bit awkward, specifically when you first lift the roof off, it is a bit heavier than you think. Not much of an issue now, just takes some time to get comfortable with the routine.

I put one hand under one on the side - flip it up in the air -
run around to the back - catch it - spin it and drop it in. 1-2-3
