GM techline told the mechanic at my Chevy dealership that as long as it's not 20-30 degrees above engine temp it's okay..they didn't specify wether that was engine oil temp or coolant temp., probably coolant temp as seen on the DIC.This was for a 2005 A-4 as well.
If you dig through the dic warnings section in your owner manual, it should explain when you get the trans warnings.
For our car, the trans temp warning comes on at 270'f and recommended cooldown is to 230'f.
Based on that, when i saw 219'f in traffic on a hot day for half an hour; i was unhappy but not worried.
Good luck with yours!
thankyou for the info. Wow that makes me feel better.got car back from dealer after trans was off. Did not notice trans. Fluid on floor.take car back monday.
Why can't these dealers get it right the first time? ANY dealers. I get tired of repeat trips to dealers after things are" fixed". My wife had a brand new KIa Sedona that was CONSTANTLY being "repaired", aand when you got it home, imagine, another problem. Unless a problem is dealer only ffixable, I have a local Firestone Center who does oil changes, brakes and tune-ups at less than half the cost, and I don't have to take it back until its time for another change or maintainance. Same guy, great service, never tried to gouge me.
most tranny rebuilders put a sticker on the pan that changes color over 250 or so. if thats all the hotter your trans temps get your fine. if your really worried about it then spend some $$ and have trans cooler installed. if you dont race the car then you should never have to worry about it.

well i thought i got lucky. Terrible noise over 3000rpm no warranty. Take to dealer .they take everything out rearend tranny tubuler drive shafts. Find missing clip from factory on torque converter.12hrs to put back together rear wheel alline no charge.3days latter notice tranny oil. Now back to dealer fingers crossed.
Above has given guidance on the operating heat range.
Yet, you do not write when your tans temp increases to that temp. Is it all the time; commute; track days; when you keep trans in 2nd gear only; never ran hot before and now it does; ambient temperature is over 100 degrees when this happens; etc?
Just double check the radiator area for debris and clean the area if applicable.
Could also check that the trans oil level is correct.

i am very happy with this dealership to spend 12hrs and not charge me a dime on 2005.they could have told me anything and i would have to pay big time. I just hope this oil leak from the tranny is something simple or not tight.but this is a very honest gm dealer. Hard to come bye.
