Default Clear Top Issue

I'm looking to trade up from my C5 to a 2009 C6 coupe.. Lately been test driving
a few with the standard body colored top.
But one I drove yesterday had a clear top that was not latched down
correctly. Someone at the dealer apparently didn't get the driver's side
ping aligned with the rear hole and latched it down.

I removed the top and installed it properly. Problem is that the top
squeaked and groaned like crazy. Is it possible the top was racked
severely enough where it might have separated from the frame?

I'd like to make an offer on the car but replacing the top >$1K.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

Bet it didn't rack, the frames are resilient as hell.
C6 tops squeaking is nothing new. I used some dielectric silicon grease from GM on the seals of both my '03 AE & '06. Just rubbed some on the weather stripping. They were dry, frame/body flexing made'em squeak. The silicon quieted it down by allowing flex movement without the rubber dragging, hence the squeaking.

OT: *Now SOME C6 clear tops were reported to develope very small cracks around the edges, was called 'crazing'. If it were that I'd have made a new top a part of the deal, but it isn't, the issue for you isn't serious. Heck, have the dealer apply some GM dielectric grease before you sign for it, themselves.

Yea, if you like it? Like the color? Overall condition? Tires are good? Prefferably comes with a GMPP (otherwise consider purching one, yourself) warranty, just so you're covered?
Buy it, enjoy it while the Summer's still around.

Good luck.

Ditto Landru's experience with the dielectric silicon grease treatment fixing my squeaking 09 top.

Where are you George? If you're near Houston and the C6 you're looking at is victory red, I'd love to talk about a swap if your interested.

My experience with sounds from the top?

I found simply reseating it fixes it.

In NJ. Nope, it's a 2009 white with the Z51, NNP exhaust, 7200 miles.
It's at an Audi dealer and I'm working on a trade for my 2004 Mag Red 6M 28k miles. I've had 3 red vettes and looking for something different.
Thanks for your offer.

Thanks. I figured it's not serious but not encouraged that it is a common problem. I prefer the solid top and noticed it tends to be
more sturdy.

George, Thanks for the reply, possible you could find someone to trade nearby. I had both the clear & solid on my C5 and did feel the sound insulation was better on the solid. But I loved that clear top view & look! Either way, I think you'll love a C6! Steven
