Default Blendmount or Visor Mount

Just purchased an Escort 9500ix and was debating between mounting it with a Blendmount on the mirror, or getting a mount to go under the sun visor.

I'm curious to hear from those of you who have tried one or both ways as to the pros/cons.

Personally, I like how the Blendmount looks clean, but worry that it can be easily seen from outside the car to invite LEO's to give a hard time and also invite thieves.

The visor mount seems like it might be more stealthy.

Any suggestions?

I also have a 9500ix that I've had for around a year. I first got one of the mounts that attaches to the back of the mirror with double-sided tape. It worked well and was in a good location. The only thing is I guess I'm too clumsy or whatever and pulled the tape loose slightly so the thing go to pointing sort of down. I tried several different types of tape and couldn't get it to stick again -- I finally got a new piece like the original from the manufacturer and all was well. Until I decided I need to bend the mount a little so it was more pointing down the road rather than towards the road in front of me... Messed the tape up a 2nd time... I finally pulled that mount off the mirror and got out the suction cup mount that came with the detector and used that for a few weeks. I had it mounted so the detector was right below the mirror and to the left so the display was just peeking out from under the mirror. Worked pretty good. Then just a couple weeks ago I was reading a thread on here where someone had just installed a BlendMount. I ordered one on the spot and it came it two days ago. It was very easy to install (except for the 113 weather...even though it only took about 10 minutes) and I REALLY like the outcome. There is no tape involved and whoever designed the thing did an excellent job. I left it enough below the bottom of the mirror so I can work the buttons on the 9500ix when I need to. Drove to town and back yesterday evening and I'm completely satisfied. With my tinted windows and the thing being up so close to the mirror I doubt anyone passing me on the highway would specifically notice it was there -- there's enough other obstacles in the way -- my head, headrests, etc. But an LEO with a sharp eye might see it anyway...they have lots of experience I'm sure.

Good luck!

I have the same radar detector and I use the Blendmount. It is definately great never having the detector in the way, and I want to do the power cord in the mirror soon. IMO the only bad part is when I take it out to update it on my computer, it is a little pain in the ARZZZ!!
I should install the software to my laptop and just bring the laptop to the car to update. Much easier!!

The mirror mounts are very nice, but they put your RD right out there in full view of leeches and LEOs - it's about as unstealthy as mounts can get.

By "visor mount" I assume you mean a visor bracket mount like the Voztech or Great Lakes, which is the way to go IMO. My V1 is mounted stealthily on the passenger side visor bracket with a Voztech mount, and the display is projected onto my windshield via the HUD.

I use a bracket that mounts to the visor screw, that keeps it up high, being barely visible to onlookers. Dont forget, thieves like these things too. Couple problems with mine though. It's pretty basic the way it came, and modified it a bit to my satisfaction. Also, if you pull the visor down, you cant see it.

I use the Blendmount after having the visor mount. Visor mount started vibrating all the time after a while. I did like the visibility on the driver's visor mount. Definitely gets my attention.

Installed the Blendmount and it was as solid as a rock. Even over railroad tracks there was no vibration. I can't see it as easily as the visor placement, but I like it better due to the rock solid mounting.

As far as being stealthy, when I am driving the car, I do not care. My V1 alerts me so I slow down way before a LEO will give me his attention. When I park, I put up the windshield screen (because it is so hot in Florida) that they can't see it anyway.

I use the double suction cup mount that came with it to the left of the rear view mirror all the way up the shield. Used the power source in the back of the mirror and that's it.

Barely see it from the outside and cannot be seen from behind.

Blendmount is nice but way too visible and way too expensive for what it is.

Had the visor mount and it limited the use of the visor. I now have the blend mount and absolutely love it!

I did the blendmount, 9500ix, and mirror tap. Oh, and ask for corvette forum discount.

Its very slick, easy to install, and is out of the way of any visors, etc.

You sit down, Start the car, the unit turns on, gets the gps signal, you go. You turn off the car, the unit turns off. So simple.

You do lose a small amount of visibilty to the right. For example, at a stop sign its harder to see whats in the right lane. Be extra careful.

What I liked about the install, is that I could do it myself. I am not keen on having some Alarm/Car Stereo place hacking up my car.

Blendmount all the way! Should be a factory option by now.

My solution is here:

I like this positioning the best. It's completely out of the way and the sun visor still works. Only downside is that it's not expensive.

The Blendmount is a beautiful piece of equipment, but I also don't want my detector mounted low where thieves and LEOs can see it.

I have the blendmount and am very happy with it. Very well made and thought out.

I also have the same Escort and use the Blendmount and mirror power cord. Excellent setup, ot of the way, no vibration and looks stock. I highly recommend this setup.

So with the Blendmount...is it possible to leave the mount attached and remove the RD from the mount without too much trouble? I'm less concerned with LEO's so much as I am with thieves.

I use the Blendmount...used to have the mirror mount bracket but the vibration got to be too much after five years so I changed.

As far as theft, it takes about three seconds to remove the detector from the Blendmount and toss it in the glove box or wife's purse.

I have the blendmount in my truck and the Great Lakes mirror mount in the vette. With my V1 I like that both put the detector pretty much in the center of the windows. Laser can and does scatter and every little bit of early detection helps.
