Does anyone with total knee replacements drive a manual? I just got my first TKR 2 weeks ago and I'm wondering if I'll be able to drive a standard in a few months when I purchase my new vette (I had an '84 15 years ago).
This really isn't meant to be yet another discussion of manual vs automatic, I screwed my knees up in Desert Storm and while I would prefer a manual, I'm not sure I'll be able to drive it as a daily driver in Atlanta traffic.

A few Canes here. However, most of us are in So Fla. Can't wait for the season to start. Been a season tix holder for about 25 years. I also go to 1 away game a year, and this year is Tallahassee. Maybe see a fellow C6 owner up there (down there for you). Welcome to the Forum and enjoy!
I also went for about 16 years without a Vette during the child raising years. I'm back for good now. Take your time a find a nice one. You will love having a C6. It's a world of difference from a 1984!!
It probably wouldn't hurt to ask your doctor or therapist; this has to be a common concern associated with this procedure. My bet is that they would be in favor of it, but I have no personal experience or knowledge on the subject.
thanks everyone! I'm doing amazingly well pretty much walking unassisted at the 15 day mark. Just need to work on strengthening exercises and range of motion. That's why I assumed I'd be ok with a stick, but I don't like to make assumptions
I'm ready for this season as well, but I think the quarterback position will keep us from taking the ACC this year. Next year is the beginning of the golden era of dominance!
(I'm still on painkillers so please ignore any typos or poor grammer)
I had TKR 4 years ago. Originally I got the auto because I have been dealing with this knee for over 20 years (9th surgery), and always had trouble with a heavy clutch after a while.
After the replacement, I now do 4-5 bootcamps per week at the gym, and even though my doctor said long ago I would never run again, I run laps with the best of them.
After starting road racing, I am now looking for a used Z06 for track only. No problem in the foreseeable future with manual shifting.
I'm only 43 I hardly consider myself old. Had I decided not to serve my country I would have two great knees and probably would have had my vette 10 years ago!

This is what inspires me and gives me hope! I have the same attitude, I'm sick of dealing with the issues and now that the first knee is fixed it's time to make up for lost time.
I have a knee that is really f'ed up but refuse to go under the knife. Getting in and out hurts occasionally but driving manual does not, not to mention that pain keeps one awake and stronger, a winning twofer

When they put me in therapy, I was the youngest guy by 35 years easy.
I told the therapist to train me like I was going back to the NFL, because when I came back from my first ACL replacement, I trained with Olympians during my recovery and got into the best shape of my life.
on my second week of therapy, I was up to 15 minutes on the Stairmaster and a guy my age came in to PT. He was stepping on and off of a sponge "step". I asked when he had his surgery and it was a week before me.
I told him he has to realize he is not one of the 80 year old guys in the room. He needs to step it up, and he realized he could do much more than the therapist were handing him.
I had a total knee replacement in 2007. I have a 2007 M6 no problem with the clutch. I was riding a bike after 4 days and climbing a ladder after two weeks.
Good luck and thank you for serving our country!

Reason: Addition
It will be great to be required to go drive your Vette as part of your physical therapy....at your age, you'll heal fine and be able to enjoy the "rehab".
Thanks for your service, and sorry about the knees.
I hope it all works out well for you, I can barely handle driving an automatic when we pass through Atlanta!
