Default cooling temp problem......

Took the car out for a spin and noticed the coolant temp was at like 240. I came back home checked the coolant level made sure there was no obstruction in the front of rad everything was ok. Fan is not turning on checked fuse it was ok. Read a post about the connector melting, if this is it how to you go about replacing it or bypassing it?

This thread might be helpful. Also shows a picture of a melted fan plug. I believe the fan is supposed to come on as soon as the A/C is on? Not 100% sure of that perhaps someone else can chime in.... Obviously if the fan isn't running with those kind of temps it's a fan related issue imo...

There is new software for the ls2 & ls3 out that rebuilds the fan settings, fixes a couple bugs and some other things. Just had mine flashed at my tuner's shop. I never used to actually hear the fans come on, boy now I do.

Is this a GM software, or something done by your tuner?

Sorry Jim, I'm not aware of who's software it is, but the only person I have tuning is my local motorsports shop. I got the impression he (my tuner) had a line of customers waiting to get reflashed.

I've had my car at the dealer 5Xs in 6 years, each time it ether was screwed up and we ended up redoing the work, or I was grossly overcharged (example: $1200 for an auto shifter cable replacement) so I make a significant effort to stay away from GM people. Now that I'm out of warranty, it's a no brainer.

You are correct. The fan turns on with the AC regardless of the water temp. But I think it is a different circut (no temp sensors). At least my 85 is set up like this. At least you can check the fan without running the risk of overheating the motor.

Thanks for the info.
I'm still under warranty, and the local dealer seems to do decent work at decent prices; so I'm still using them.
