Hell, if a rabbit would have run out in front of me, we both would have been part of the road.

OP if you feel the need, go for it. Like others have said, don't go past you driving ability. Lift if you need to, its better to live to play another day.
I've been a motorcyclist with a serious speed addiction for 40 years. Don't you just love when people say "if you hit a pebble at that speed you're going to me dead meat"? I get it all the time. They don't realize that the bike does not want to fall over and a dime in the road will not cause us to lose control.

But I do admit that because so much of my riding is on the back roads that animals large and small are my biggest concern.

One thing though, a race track like Daytona and Talladega, is very smooth. I wouldn't want to ty those speeds on a public road where the car could be upset by less then perfect road conditions.
Was that your silver C5 that hit 162 during Vettes for Vets in 2010? After my run we were all standing around comparing top speeds. there were lots of high 130's, a couple of 141's and me and one other guy hit 142mph down the back stretch so I was pretty happy. Then some dude tells us he's about to post his video of hitting 162MPH through the dogleg. BAH! I did my 142MPH with the top down though

My C5 was bone stock with the 3.15 gears and it got up to 142 relatively fast. We rolled into turn one at 60 accelerated through the 33 degree banked turn and shot out of turn two at 120mph to accellerate up to 142mph down the back stretch before I had to lift because the guy in front of me hit his brakes. If you have never been on a track like that you would not believe how smooth it is. It's like driving on a sheet of glass. My C5 felt rock solid in triple digits on the track and at 155mph on the street. (closed course of course) However thats as fast as I ever got it. I can tell you that at 155mph the road looked very very narrow. At 200MPH it would just be scary but I'd love to try it

Here's a video of my ZR1 at Vettes-for-Vets:

Yes, 'Dega is very smooooooth!!! I saw 165 on that run, but the data I recorded showed about 168 mph.

The last time I ran on Daytona was before they repaved it last year. There are about 3 HPDE track events every fall for the last few years, but the track was "curing" during the fall last year after he repaving in the summer, so none of the events were run.

However, if anybody wants to run Daytona this fall, there's a PBOC event in Oct

an event run by Le Belle Machine d'Italia

And the best one is the Hooked On Driving event with the Audi club in Dec

Here's a video of a couple laps on the old bumpy Daytona track from a couple years ago:

I'll be running a couple of those Daytona events this fall and can't wait to run the new smoooooth track surface!!!
