Default Navigation Question

Need some help from the CF.

I read / followed all the navigation set-up instructions and I put in a local address in Sioux Falls, SD with correct start & end address, city, zip, etc and I go to start the trip and once done calculating the navigation system is telling me my starting location is in Tennessee and my trip which should be a 15-20 minute trip is being quoted as 26hr, 37 minutes trip in the navigation.

My first thought is I had the wrong region selected, so I checked that but nope it's in the correct region.

Any ideas?

My wife who is as close to a navigation expert (can jump into any make of vehicle and have no issues with any navigation system) can't figure it out either.

Any help would be appreciated.

Can't help with your question but.....if you haven't read Talon90's Nav tutorial you might want to do that at some point. It has helped many here.

It sure sounds like the wrong region. Do you have the correct disc in the Nav unit? Do you require the western disc?

I'm guessing here...

I have two cars with GM nav. You do not need to imput a starting address, it knows where you are. Check that you have it set on the correct region.

You have to clear your saved way points, I had the same problem after moving from Chicago to AZ every trip I started first calculated from Chicago to 18 miles away but it would work correctly but the calculation took a lot longer. I don't remember the steps but I cleared everything made sure I was in the correct region and it worked better after that but mainly I use my Garmin now as it's so much easier to use.

You've all ready been linked to my tutorial and all of this will be in there but make sure you have "allow major roads" selected in your user preferences. Make sure that you are in the correct region. Keeping in mind that you must be in the destination region to enter the address and select it for guidance. Make sure that you view the "3 routes" button, that will give you the option to change your route selections (shortest, quickest and normal) and see if any of them are closer to your expectations for the route.

If this car was previously owned, make sure that there are no prior destinations or waypoints showing as still programmed. The car could be trying to take you to your selected destination via a waypoint that the previous owners left in there.

If you have any questions on this or the tutorial, please feel free to PM me or email me.

Paul

Make sure your region is set right. Is the address a private road? I input an address in TX that is a private road and the Nav tried to send me to OK. City.

There is no “start” address required. You just need to plug in your required destination.

I have 3 GM vehicles w/Nav and they all work differently, but none require a “start” address.
