New 2012, New 2011, Used 2011 Grand Sport
Hi
I'm ready to pull the trigger on a Grand Sport. The choices I have to choose from:
New 2012(1LT)= About $50,000,
New 2011 (1LT)= $47,000,
Used 2011 (3LT) $50,000.
I really don't care about buying anything other than a 1LT, but the used 3LT would be a little upscale. Taking warranty, depreciation, etc. into account which would be the better choice?
Thanks,
Garibaldi

I'm looking at the 1LT also. Was going to get the 2LT but Chevy changed the package and loaded it with stuff I don't need ie: nav and hud. Actually preferred the 2011 package with the power seating.

It depends. If the used car has an interior and exterior color you really want then you would not be happy with the others even though they may be newer or have more content. Newer is always better but you have to like it.

Depends on how meticulous you are with the car. For me it's new without any scratches, swirls or chips. Unless the previous owner was as meticulous as myself, I always go new. For $3000 going new sounds like the better option. Though you do lose the upscale interior.
Good Luck..

The 12 has the new seat design. The others don't. Order the color you want Vs take what is available.

I had a 2012 2lt on order til I open the mailbox and found a $3k voucher from GM, I scrambled and found a 2011 1lt only 200 miles away that had just come off the truck, only option was the paint color, paid $43k plus TTT vs $50k Plus TTT for the 2012, I felt that justified the 2011 purchase. If you can find a car you like turn up the wick on them and get a deal you can feel.

Generally, 1LT cars have very little or none other optional equipment on them. However, 3LT cars often have several other options on them in addition to the 3LT equipment, such as wheels, NPP exhaust, nav. So more often than not the MSRP on a 3LT is about and 8-10K higher MSRP than the non-optioned 1LT. Assuming low mileage, good condition and a color combo that you like, then the used 3LT is a much better buy of the choices given. I'm further making the guess that all three cars have the same transmission, because that is a very fundamental decision factor.

Less expensive new usually relates to getting a better % of what you paid back when you sell it... Buying used, you usually get a better deal buying a loaded up car for the same reason... My last 4 Vettes, 2 were purchased used, both VERY low mileage used and both were hard loaded 3 packages, my 2 new ones were both very basic. And 2010 lt2 and my 11GS which is a LT1 package...

I'll go for the '11 3LT. A useable car is never an investment so fewer spent for more makes sense. The hardest hit is the drop in value the first time the car rolls off the showroom floor. With the 3LT you're avoiding that. Nice predicament to be in though; have fun!

When I was shopping I had my mind set on a 2lt until I came across the vehicle I finally purchased which was a 3lt. Now that I own it I am happy that I spent a few more dollars because I love the HUD, memory package, home link transmitter, and telescopic wheel. Even the factory nav package has grown on me in the past two months.
The thing to remember though is that there are still plenty of 2011's sitting on the lots right now and dealers are even more motivated to move them since the 2012's are arriving daily.

I got 17K off MSRP on 2011, I dont like the seats in the 2012, the headrest looks to me, looks top heavy... I went with the great money off, I got a steal of a deal.

Have you checked the dealer section, think someone was selling 3lt GS's for around $50k new, might be 1.9% financing as well. A used 2011 would make me nervous, I have traded in some cars during the same model year when I was young and making too much money, it was usually because of a problem that couldn't be fixed. Just something to think about.

How did you get $17k off MSRP on a new 2011? Maybe I should ask where. Could you break that down for me? Sorry to go off topic, but am rather interested in the math.
