Default Advice please????

I have a 2005 (with all the options) its an A4 with 30,000 miles on it & its in perfect condition...

Today I was driving past a Mercedes dealership, & they have a 2007 ZO6 with 23,000 miles and it also is FULLY loaded and immaculate condition..

They are asking $45,000 for the 2007 ZO6.. and have not yet seen mine (going there first day with no rain) what would be a "fair" price for me to pay... BOTH cars are in the same excellent condition, the ZO6 had a cold air intake (not Vararam) and Corsa exhaust..

I want to drive it to see if there is any drone ...also I plan on taking it to a local Chevy dealership to see if the computer has had a "Tune" and if I can get an extended warranty on it...

I'm guessing they will offer me $25,000 for my 05 and want another $20k .... or am I way off, what would be a "
Fair" deal .. I'm not looking to get the BEST DEAL AROUND.. but only a "FAIR" deal because I love the color LMB and the condition..+ its a ZO6...

thanks..

A LMB ZO6 is a rare find. I imagine any price that you can live with would be good enough. Maybe start at 39k and try to meet in the middle somewhere and keep an eye on their trade-in quote. I ususally try to handle one negotiation at a time (trade price and then price for the new car).

they aren't going to give you 25,000 for your car unfortunately. Or if they do you will pay full tilt on the Z06. Possibly negotiate the price down on the Z06 first before mentioning the trade, get the number and then ask about the trade in.

john, as above, you most likely won't get 25 for your car in a trade but if you do, 45 full tilt on Z is likely. good point tho to check if there's a tune at GM and see if you can get GMPP.

Just go there with a different car, or park your car somewhere that they don't know what you have.

Work the deal from the angle that you are buying the car outright and see where you get. Then when and if you arrive at the price you are happy with, tell them you want to sleep on it. Call back the next day and say you are fine with that price, but have decided you would like to trade in your current Corvette rather than dealing with selling it private party. At that point you will negotiate the trade price.

It is very important the two cars are treated as separate transactions during the negotiation process. Dealers like to treat them as one so that the numbers are easy to look over. Always treat them as two different numbers, because that is what they are to the dealer since two departments are involved (new car sales and used care sales).

My last purchase required the new car department to give the used car department money because I negotiated my trade price higher than they were willing to pay. Additionally the sales person let it slip that the car I was interested in was going to auction, so I was able to get even more out of them on the new (to me) car

Also, make sure that they know you have all of the time in the world. Sit it out, if you are only $1k apart, they will stand firm, but after 24 hours someone will be calling you. I have spent 8 hours at the dealer negotiating and I don't have a problem doing so, because it usually works out to around a rate of $300/hour

Sarge-
I'd love to see you get $25k for your car, but from a dealer it's unlikely IMO . . . I'd guess more like $22-23 and maybe a grand off the Z . .

Your car is so clean, I can't imagine you couldn't sell it for more locally in just a couple of days . . .

Good luck - -I know how it is when you "get the itch" . . . I'm about ready to sell mine too . . .

I looked mine up in the "Kelly Blue Book" a 2005 in Excellent condition to a "Dealer should bring $28,000 in EXCELLENT condition, and in "Good" condition 26,500 so I'm guessing about $2700 ?? mine is in "Excellent" condition but I'm guessing they will take something off because the air dam has some scrapes from going in a steep driveway.. (Not visible unless you get under the car)

One thing for sure before I bring it in for them to look at it I'll have to remove the Division 1 Competition stickers and my racing # 4141 but thats easy as they are only stick ons on the windshield and rear window..

Also I'll remove the "line lock" and the 3 way fan switch that will run the fan with the engine off.. (I use it at the track)

I already asked the salesman if they would "work" a little with me on their asking price...

He said he's there to "SELL CARS" so I'm taking this as a "yes" they will work with me..

I also took the salesman to his computer and got to our C6 for sale section so he could see for himself that they DO sell for less than $45000...

I'm not desperate to sell, and really have no problems with my car, and there "IS" a down side if I make the deal...

A stick shift car is NEVER as good as an automatic for "Bracket Racing" which I do a lot of...I think I would be relegated to just going to the track for "Fun" days and forget about entering the $1000 payout races that I now run in..

But Damn a LMB ZO6 is beautiful and this one looks like the nicest one I've seen...

The Corsa exhaust sounds great (only in the lot) I have not been on the road with it, and don't know if it will drone or not..

The salesman also said I could take it to any Chevy dealership, & have them check to see it it has been reprogrammed..

Also I'll take the vin # and stop at the State Police barracks near me (I know a few troopers) and see if I can get a name of the original owner..

I'll also get a Car Fax.. and be sure there was really only one owner and where the car came from....

I cant think of anything else to do before I go back tomorrow or Wed.

Again thanks for your input....

I just sold my 2008 Coupe to a smaller dealer about a month ago in order to buy a Z06. I got what I considered a fair trade in value for it. Usually, dealers do not want to give you even trade in value for your trade. Once I had the cash from my sale I bought the Z from a private party. However, you will have much more leverage with the selling dealer if you are not trading. Just my 2 cents.
