Z06 cooling issues & A/C problems...
Sometime between the trip back to the shop (150 miles) after dyno passes (very few) and an attempted intake manifold swap (didn't work, went back to stock) the car began to run warmer than usual and the a/c compressor would shut off, then cycle, etc. Details of mileage - I drove it home (saturday) 120 miles. drove it to run errands next evening, then to work Monday. After work, I went to eat lunch. When I got back in the car it was already hotter than it had been since I remember. It sat in the parking lot for about an hour. Prior to this it rarely ran over 200 degrees with Dewitt 2 core radiator its had in it for a while. The hottest the coolant temp has been is 234. A/C compressor shuts off without correlation to engine temps. Oil temps maybe get slightly over 200 at hottest.
Car went back to the shop. They said it was fixed. Topped off coolant (completely full), changed a fan relay (?). Before I picked it up we tried to reinstall new intake (still had trouble) back to stock.
I let it sit and idle inside chevy garage, outside in sun. Really nothing. Just before I pulled away, a/c shut off.
The car has everything it had on it when it was running fine.
The issue is causing compressor hi side to sky rocket up. Nothing really allow exact, reproducible response. In time it eventually works its way up and never coold back down. The a/c has shut off as low as 208 coolant temps.
We have checked a # of things, but I'd really like for anyone willing to throw out anything they can think of.
Thanks,
JT
Just seems odd a dealership that canNOT seem to figure out the issue turns to one of the very few aftermarket pieces and miraculously finds a way to blame it. They can't PROVE it with concrete evidence but they are certain it's the cause.
Today happens to be a good 20 degrees cooler, couldy, and raining when he test drives his theory and he is still convinced its the radiator.
The mere fact that the mechanic said the condenser leaned on the radiator at the base but was gapped on top tells me maybe, just maybe someone did not install either/or the radiator / condenser.
I agree with the theory that a smaller gap between the condenser and radiator can cause a/c high side pressures to climb, but wouldn't that have been an issue since it was installed?
My concern is I'll get the car back and it will overheat once again... Im not sure I'll be able to keep my composure at that time...
