I have a 2011 base coupe and notice some lifter noise. Is this normal for the LS3 engine? I notice it from inside the car. I only have a little over 900 miles on the car. I have not had the motor over 5000 RPM and have followed the recommended break-in procedure.
It could be the Injectors.
I never noticed it until one day on a newly paved highway and no tire noise.
Car was so quiet all I could hear were the Injectors.
If you do headers you'll hear all that lovely mechanical music even more. The long tubes act somewhat like a tuning fork in transmitting the moving parts working. Sounds great to me.
And if you install a wide-profile aftermarket cam with lots of lift, you will get lots of valvetrain noise do to the fact that the 'ramp speeds' are so fast ... at least in the aluminum block LSx engines.
All pushrod motors make those sorts of noises. You can hear them very well if you drive next to a concrete divider/wall. As long as the noise is uniform, ie one lifter doesn't stand out, its fine. The people that say they can't hear anything are just deaf.
first thing i noticed on my new GS no''noise .my o9 and 08 are loud as h***.you should here no lifter noise if that motor is tight.i have went round and round with GM but all i hear is "THATS NORMAL" same when the tops were flying off THATS NORMAL'' selling the 09 and 08 before i have real probs.ck. you vin in the gm bul.see if they have had other comp.you will hear some inj. noise with the hood up.
.IF THIS WAS NORMAL every car would sound that way . go back to the dealer start some other cars up see what you think.best of luck
The only time I am conscious of my lifters making noise is rarely upon startup, and then the noise goes away quickly as the oil pressurizes. Not hearing anything while driving.
