My climate control display does not work. Can it be rebuilt
or do I need to replace it with a new one? Also how difficult
is it to self install, thanks?
You didn't say what year your car is but the HVAC head unit failure is somewhat common. You'll need to replace it, they can't be rebuilt, AFAIK. Most dealers will charge you $450-$500+ for the part. Our vendors, partstaxi.com and gmpartshouse.com will charge you about $350 ish. Changing it is the same as replacing the radio, remove the center console and it's right there, 4 screws and a plug. If you need DIY instructions for the console you can search or ask for a link........or pay someone to change it. Good luck.
I also agree this is a common failure and of course all the fuses have been checked, yes?
I recall that w/ C5s the display stopped functioning from a copper band that came in contact with the *****. One would re-adjust the band to regain function. A C5 forum search might turn up some detail.
Now if your saying the display is not lit...then seems (seems) to me soldering and parts might be needed. I have no info on unit disassembly and parts needed in that case.
Well thats different- on Ebay from 35-50 bucks you can have it fixed. You posted this in the C6 section.I don't think your 98 is a C6 Oh and yer welcome for all the research I did for you
