Yet another fuel sending unit thread

The problem started over a month ago after filling up (I exclusively use either Shell or Chevron gas). I started suffering from the dreaded 0 gauge reading and Service Fuel System DIC message and the SEL lighting (the SEL light didn't happen right away however). I just cleared the DIC message with the RESET and happily drove on...
It would remain in this state for about 30 miles or so and then the gauge would start to come alive (jump to full), then die again (along with the DIC message), then come back. This cycle would repeat itself for another 10 miles or so and finally, the gauge would come alive and stay working fine for the remainder of that tank. Of course, the SEL went out after a few ignition cycles after that.
I figured a bad spot on the passenger side sending unit was the culprit and when the tank level dropped enough, the wiper was no longer on the bad spot so it came alive. At that time, I pulled the codes and it indicated level sensor #2 (which is passenger side I believe)
So at the next fill up, I dumped in a bottle of Techron and it seemed to help a little bit - in that the gauge started coming alive only 20 miles! AHA! We're making progress!. Well... 5 tanks full (and Techron additions) later and now the problem exists both when "full" and now when around 1/2 tank. I haven't had yet had a chance to pull the codes but perhaps the driver side sending unit is now going (as I understand the 1st half tank is sucked from the passenger side tank).
Anyway, I do have GMPP and SU replacement is of course covered. It's just bad timing as we're getting ready for a 10 day road trip the week after Labor Day so I'm gonna have to move fast if I want to get this fixed. (either that or ignore it until we return and simply keep track of miles driven per tank)

Just disconnect the battery for 10 seconds and then reconnect it. Chances are, there isn't anything wrong with your fuel sending unit. Did the same thing a year ago and haven't had a problem since.

I'm well aware of the computer glitches that happen in a C6 and the ol' disconnect the battery to reset 'em trick but I've never heard the sending unit/gauge problem attributed to it!
Easy enough to do however....
