The "rocker panel" is actually the whole entire door frame. It's difficult to remove because it's bonded to the frame, and of course that makes it difficult to install a new one as well.
If you get a rocker panel cracked from lifting the car wrong, curb rash, accident, just repair it, unless you get t-boned and are going to need to repair the whold side of the car.
