Default wheels

I am a new C6 owner and have been watching the for sale section for a set of GM polished aluminum wheels. I am getting confused from some of the posts in that section and can someone tell me is there a difference between 2005-2007 wheels and 2008 onward GM polished aluminum wheels. As well what is a gumby and is that another different wheel as well?

I don't have a pic of an '05-'07 polished wheel but here is the same wheel in chrome:

The following pics courtesy of talon90:

Here is the '08-'09 forged polished wheel, note the new (different) spoke design as well as the fact it's forged as opposed to cast like all the other wheels:

Edit: Oh, you asked about Gumby. Gumby is the "affectionate" name members here gave to the '08-'09 forged style wheel (2nd one above) in both polished and chrome

Wow, thanks very much Rick, those pics helped very much. While shopping for my C6 and looking at wheels I wasn't aware that there was a difference in wheels which was so substantial. I must now decide which one I will like better on my 2008.

The gumby wheel, in polished aluminum, is a forged wheel.

Sorry I don't have a close-up of just the wheel.

In 2008, GM introduced the split-spoke wheel as an option, a beautiful (IMHO) cast wheel.

I don't believe the gumby wheels have changed at all over the years,

Thanks Jack,

I have the cast split spoke on my car. That wheel looks great on red car and just doesn't look as good on my silver coupe. I think the polished wheel would sharpen up the silver coupe up a bit. Of course everybody has thier own preferences and tastes.

thanks again,

Your first picture is not a "Gumby" wheel. Your wheel is a five spoke polished wheel. These were available from 2005-2007. Look closely at the two pictures that rick posted above. Your's is the first spoke style. The "Gumby" wheels are the second photo. The five spoke wheel is wide near the hub and tapers as it moves up towards the outer lip. The "Gumby" wheel is narrower at the hub and gets larger as it moves up towards the outer lip.

Yep, gotta like that! If I change from split spoke to polished aluminum can I use the same lug nuts?

There were 5 wheels available (not including Z06) in '08 according to the production figures from the BG plant.

QTY CODE NAME
7828 QG6 Base (split spoke)
1781 QX1 Comp Grey (split spoke)
5412 QG7 Polished
9626 QX3 Chrome
2932 Q9V Chrome forged

Which of the last three are "gumbys"?

The QX3 was real low production in '06, real high in '07 and '08, but dropped in '09.

If the QX3 in '08 was the "gumby" then what was the Q9V and what was the '09 "gumby"?

Was the QX3 a 5-spoke and just a late year offering in '06 and deleted mid-year '08?

If you like the finish on them, they should work.

What you say as defining the gumby wheel may be correct, but is subject to interpretation. Folks overlay a waist-up view over the spokes and see a narrow hub (waist) that broadens out at the rim (head).

The overall Gumby, however, is wide at the hub (feet) and ultimately is narrower at the rim (head).

Just a different outlook amigo.

Yes.....used in early '08 MY, replaced the by the Q9V in Feb '08.

The QX3 was NOT a Gumby. QX3 is the original C6 style wheel (first pic I posted above).
