Default Air-bag system problem?

The air-bag icon light on the right side of gauge cluster has been staying on when driving. Manual says have system checked. Any thoughts on this.'

Thanks in advance

Could be several things but you won't know without getting the codes read. Will take a code reader that can read the air bag codes so you may not be able to get them read at an auto parts store.

I had the same thing happening. There was a broken connector in a wire harness under the seat.

Jerry,

Bill is absolutely correct (as usual) in that without the codes it will be very difficult to narrow down as there are several components of the supplemental restraint system that can set a code. Be advised that while that light is on, that portion of the restraint system isn't functioning.

The most common cause of an airbag light is from a worn or loose connection in the connector under the drivers seat (due to movement of the seat). Might be worth taking out the seat and taking a close look at the wire and connectors.

That's what mine was the one time it came on. Wiggled the connectors under the seat and not had a problem since except seat memory which is solved by the same wiggling of the connectors under the seat. I have to do it about every 6 months now.

If you move the seat fore and aft often, then it is likely as the guys said above. If you never move the seat at all, then it is likely something else.

During my Chevy days last year there was a problem with the connectors under the seats in several models. The fix was a kit that had you re-wire the connections under both front seats with new connectors. SRS stuff is usually dealer only because of the safety issue. Check there first.

Yep, me too. After a $400 fix where all the dealer did was reconnect loose wires, it's happening again. Now what?

I have this problem with another vehicle, not the Corvette. It must be a loose connection somewhere because running over bumps will make the light come on or go off.

Wiggle the two connectors yourself. Takes less than 30 seconds. I don't disconnect anything, just wiggle them and the problem goes away.

I had this problem--dealer replaced the seatbelt itself--both the long belt part and the short "stub" (i.e. female connector). Seems fixed for now, but that wasn't long ago.

Done under warranty--thank goodness, since it was about $400-$500.
