Default C6 Fuel Pump problems

Last year I had to replace the fuel pump on my 2009 C6 which only had 2000 miles on it. It was having trouble starting. All of a sudden now my car is having trouble starting up again as it hesitates a little, before it fires up. I think I may have a fuel pump problem again. I only have 4500 miles on the car.

Has anyone else had trouble with their fuel pumps and if so what causes this issues?

Thanks,

do you think you're getting some condensation in the fuel...? appears not to be driven regularly, or for long trips ?
could cause fuel to degrade...

lots of topics on this in the tech section. Sometimes it may be the relay of the connection under the relay. That being said, I had two pumps in less then 500 miles.

Now that you have mentioned it, I think I have been getting condensation in the fuel. The car has been out in rain and also it has been humid some days here in NY. I don't drive it that much so maybe that is the issue this time.

Humidity is the norm here where I live. It has never caused a problem for either one of Vettes (C6's) I've had.

Nor any other vehicle I've had for that matter.

If it's condensation building up, it's not because of outdoor humidity. At least not that I have experienced living in a VERY humid climate.....south.

O OK. What can cause the condensation build up then?

Sounds like a combination of old gas and condensation. You obviously drive the car very little.

No more than your driving (your Vette) I would think the fuel is "varnishing" your pump. But,

If that is happening seems to me that other things, such as fuel injectors, would be affected as well.

Try adding a bottle of 'Techron' (made by Chevron) in your tank. Thats the best I have found fot my Vette.

In the C5's Techron was the best fix for the fuel gage units in the tanks of C5's.

Anyway, try that and see if it cures your hard start problem.

Fuel system cleaner. Try it, it might do the job for you. I run a tank full, treated with this stuff, before I change the oil. Works well.

Do you use fuel additives like Techron etc?

You can use Techron all you want. It is a good preventer. But if you want to clean and lube in tank sending units put a pint of MMO in the tank. Marvel Mystery Oil. Cleans and lubes and does it fairly quickly.

All over the counter additives are a waste of money....

Not all of them. Plenty out there that serve a purpose. Own a diesel. Some additives become you best friend under certain conditions. I have used MMO in diesels to clear up fuel gauge and running issues. Techron used in fuel on a regular basis keeps carbon deposits to a minimum.

Richie,

Get the little bottle/single use of Stabil fuel stabilizer; they sell them sealed at Autozone.

Keep them in cubby in trunk and use whole bottle at every fill up. I did this with my other ride, that gets weekend use and its been fine for 5yrs.

Fuel degrades after 30 days; and if u keep topping up the tank, layer of bad fuel sits at bottom or condensation at top
