Mine is a stick and pushing the top of the button without pushing in the clutch turns on the ignition also....ignition on but no engine start. Maybe an automatic is the same if you don't hold the brake.

Nope. With an A6 you just get the message to put your foot on the brake when you press the top. You have to press the bottom.
