Don't see this article here on the forum but I think this is an appropriate matter to post here. I do not like Onstar at all, I think it is intrusive, dangerous, and a scam. Projections I have seen are that soon systems like Onstar will compute your status, see that you are at a quarter tank of gas and actively notify you via voice that you need gas and there is a station with discount gas around the corner. I don't need that kind of mothering, its as bad as the trick new cellphones trick for the White House to notify you there's a terrorst attack in progress. I'll be getting rid of my cellphone because I absolutely don't need that either.
This is probably the most disgusting and specious thing GM has done yet.
From the article:
"If you're the owner of a fairly new General Motors product, you may want to take a close look at the most recent OnStar terms and conditions. As it turns out, the company has altered the parameters under which it can legally collect GPS data on your vehicle.
Originally, the terms and conditions stated that OnStar could only collect information on your vehicle's location during a theft recovery or in the midst of sending emergency services your way. That has apparently changed. Now, OnStar says that it has the right to collect and sell personal, yet supposedly anonymous information on your vehicle, including speed, location, seat belt usage and other information."
