Default Power Convertible Top Question

I will pick up my 2008 vert tomorrow. I have questions regarding the power top:

1) Looking at the owners manual it appears that all I have to do to put the top down is to pull and turn the release above the rear view mirror and then press the down button. SO there is no tonneau open button like I had on my '02 manual top?

2) I read something about how to operate the top if power is lost. It refers to a wrench stored in the console to release pressure. Do I look in the center console for this wrench?

TIA

yep, nice and easy, just turn the handle, push the front of the top up a bit (4-6") and press/hold the down button until you hear a beep. The cover opens, the top retracts, etc nice and easy. If you have a manual trans you need to have the ebrake on; automatic needs to be in park.

The wrench will depend on where the last owner left it- console, rear compartment, kitchen junk drawer at home etc. The pump is behind the passenger side area- behind the door under the tonneau cover area. You should get a DVD with the car if all the documentation is with it, that shows how to do this procedure. If you don't get one, call customer service or post on here and I'm sure you can get a copy.

Congrats! -Dan

yes, its that easy

twist the release handle, hold down the power button and it does the rest

Congrats on the car

I have an '08 JSB Convertible

to be honest, I have read the post about using the wrench also, but I have never taken the time to check it out ... I should, I guess - just to be on the safe side

Don't forget this part or it won't do a thing.

Kind of annoying.

to answer your question regarding the tonneau yes, there is a way to manually open it. there is a button you push to open it. located on passenger side is where the pump is located. pull back the carpet and there it sits.

my first Vette was a Z51 equipped vert. you need the allen wrench tool (looks like one to me if it isnt). and to open the cover is above. the button/wire is nearly identical to C5's vert tonneau. so you already lnow what to look for.

I recall the wrench is attached to/ on the pump.

(Yes, the pump is under the side upper plastic trim behind the passenger seat. The wrench is basically an allen to remove a plug to release pressure so you can manually push the top up or down)

Kind of annoying.
I don't push mine up at all. Just turn the handle. The motors pull it up from a flat position.

I'm not sure if they changed from 08 to10 but on mine the tonneau release is sort of behind the passenger seat and is a cable you pull. As said else where in the post the wrench is just an allen, my guess metric but easy to replace. I keep mine in the bag it came in only because it's got a label saying what it's for and I take it out of the car thinking it's just another allen wrench. As for the valve only a couple of turns is required. I have had to use it twice because if the trunk is really loaded the shield for the top comes unsnapped and cuts out the power top circuit

Easy-squeezee, just turn the handle and push up, windows lower, then push the down button (which I wish was a set button). Welcome to the Big-Sky Club ...

That is were mine is on my 2008 and I just push the top up until the windows go down. The button will pick it up but I just thinks that it must be more stress on the pumps(probably just an unwarranted fear).

I have a tip for you.
You can operate the top without the car in park, pull up the ebrake handle one click and the power top will work . This is great if your at a stop light or stop and go traffic. I do it all the time but at very low speeds like 10mph and lower.
Enjoy the VERT your going to love it.

Everyone giving great advice here....what this forum is for! George Vee nice advice on the handbrake it does work well. On the trunk when you are taking your roof up and down don't ever think it is broken if it won't go and the Driver Info Center dings on you, MAKE Sure you do not have anything in your trunk that would block the partition or top from being stored or the car will not let you put the top down. I had to learn this the hard way and was futzing with the clips as they a have to be secured before it will go down. It will detect any little thing in there so as long as it is clear your good to go - works perfect - mine is a 2005 and works awesome all the time.

Enjoy your new ride.

I have an 08 JSB vert, best car I ever had, you will get much pleasure from it. Make sure the convt top liner is not torn on each side near where your head would be. that was a problem for several years. The top of the metal frame needs to be sanded smooth as it catches the liner as the top moves. I sanded mine , put a patch behind the liner where the small holes were and some felt on the back edge of the metal . Good luck.
