Default Muffler Mod Question....

Maybe I've missed it in my searches, but when performing the muffler mod, with the flaps CLOSED, does the exhaust note change any? Or is it only when the exhaust flaps are OPEN that the volume is enhanced. I guess I'm just not completely understanding what to expect from this modification.... Any help would be appreciated!

If you're talking about the Z06 muffler mod then yes, the only thing the mod affects is the "flaps open" sound/volume because you're closing off the stock perforated pipe inside and making it a solid one, similar to the NPP mufflers.

I am talking about the ZO6 muffler mod and thank you as that helps me to understand a bit better what I'm considering!

I did notice that it is just a tad louder with the flasp close, but barely noticeable. The note itself is the same

I noticed if you leave the packing inside the mufflers then the exhaust note is the same when closed. I removed mine in my 07 and it had a more "hollow sound" when closed.

I had LT's and no cats and it was loud when open!

"Hollow" or pingy? According to your tastes, would you recommend leaving the packing in or removing it?

Also, what is a good price to expect to pay for this mod to be performed? I was quoted a total of $485 to have it done. This seems a bit high to me, but I might be wrong.

I agree with FrankTank: Slightly louder after the mod.

The price you are quoted seems high to me. I used my Dremel to cut the sheet metal on the outside of the mufflers for access. And, I did the unmounting and mounting on the car myself.

I took the open access mufflers to a welder who made the sleeve from exhaust pipe stock, welded the sleeve, welded the sheet metal, ground the welded area fairly smooth, painted the welded area with high-temp paint for $90.

I guess it depends on how hands-on you want to be.

I paid 250 at a local custom exhaust shop and it was their first pair
