Sounds like a plan. Check your fuel cap first. A loose or bad cap will turn the engine light on.
If it is the gas cap, it will take about a dozen engine starts before the CEL will turn off in my past experiences with my 06Z if not turned off with scan tool. With either a new cap or the old cap, install by twisting without any downward pressure on the cap.
