Trunk lock problem
Now that I have it home and have spent some time with it I have realized that the key that came with the car does not fit the lock cylinder for the trunk release. It fits the console and glove box just fine, but does not even fit into the lock cylinder for the trunk.
I know that if the car looses battery power that the only way that I have to open it is through the trunk to then pull the manual door opener for the drivers door. So I really need to be able to open the truck without using the remote or rear release button.
I wonder how hard it is to replace the lock cylinder? Or have a new one re-keyed to fit my same key that works everything else.
Any suggestions as to the easiest fix?
hello from Wichita Falls. I don't know the exact answer to your question, but have you talked to a locksmith? If it was me, I'd check with David at SW Lock & key. What color is your car? I may have seen it last weekend.
maybe someone will show up that can answer your question.

Your car looks real nice. I didn't see that one last weekend.
There have been a number of folks on this board that have have truck and key problems oin the verts. Based on what you said about your car, it's possible the cylinder was replaced. It may also be a case of crud build up in the correct cylinder. If you do a search on this forum, you may find some of the previous threads. Once you get it working, it's a good idea to put the key in the lock on occasion to keep it working right.
I imagine others with more knowledge than me will weigh in on this topic.
Enjoy you car and welcome to the forum.
He thought that I might be able to order a blank lock cylinder to then have keyed to my key. I'll have to check on that.
Are there any other good dealers around here to deal with besides Herb Easley? I have not had too good a luck with them lately.
Also, I know you have been part of a local Corvette club for many years. I'd be interested in knowing a little more about the local club.
Lipscomb Chevy up in Burk is the WCCA club sponsor. I've not dealt with them, but I heard they are good to work with. You are right. I am actually members of both local Corvette Associations. Hard to believe there are 2 in W. Falls. The Wichita County and the Red River group. I'll post my business number if you want to call me sometime for more information. 322-1414

a. Have you checked with the shop that rebuilt the car? If it was hit in the rear, they most likely replaced the lock cylinder & might have the key laying around somewhere. Or they should replace the cylinder & key for you.
b. If you want to go the DIY route, you should be able to release the trunk with the fob or under-dash button. Once the lid is open, you can easily get to the lock cylinder to remove & bring to a locksmith to have it re-keyed...or just buy a new culinder with key....they're not expensive.

Now that I have cleared the path, from whatever was holding it up in there, the key goes in and out pretty easily now.
Sounds like these are not used often and need to be used once in a while to keep them working. Maybe a little powered graphite blown in there wouldn't hurt.
Thanks guys.
