It was a perfect afternoon so when I came in from work today I got my GS out to drive a little -- I needed to return a rented movie. A mile or two from the house my driver's seat all of a sudden reclined all the way. It didn't happen like *BAM*! It did it rather slowly like a power recliner would do. At first I thought I was imagining things. But I pulled the lever (which feels SO flimsy...) and leaned forward for the seat to come back up. It wouldn't. When I got back home I tried pulling the seat back up into a more upright position but it will not stay. It's like all of the ratchet notches in the reclining mechanism have vanished. Has this happened to anyone else? It's not a major problem because the seat will only recline so far until you run into the bulkhead behind the seats but it looks like I'm low-riding or something... I will try taking the seat out out for a closer look before taking it to the dealer for some warranty work -- I kind of dread that because I see a bad happening coming down the road...

This is the 1st semi-major issue with the car since I bought it and I'm now at a little over 18,000 miles.

Thanks!

the exact same thing happened to me. Had to replace the rear seat back. The seat back is made out of fiber glass like material. It cracked and fell apart at the bottom where it fits into the bottom part of the seat.

I had the dealer order the part (under warranty) and a friend and I took it apart ourselves and fixed the seat. Just took the broken one back to the dealer. Been fine ever since. Good luck!!!

Supercrewbear,
I wouldn't recommend trying to do it yourself as it is still under warranty. Some dealerships may think the issue is a result of your tinkering and may not honor your warranty regarding this issue. Let us know what happens.

Justin

Took my car in on Monday and they called yesterday to say it was just a latch in the seat. They have one ordered and thought it would be in from Dallas (to Paris, TX) in time for me to pick it up this afternoon. Then they called back and said the latch has to come from Michigan and it will take about 5 days. They said they could put the seat back together so I could pick it up and then bring it back but that's all too much trouble so I said for them to just keep it until it's fixed. When I can overnight something from here to Tokyo I don't understand this exactly... Oh well!

Sounds like they're just being cheap. I had a GM dealer overnight a part from Texas to get my suspension fixed up. In fact, they overnighted it without even asking!
