My experience has been that my 06 coupe with the glass top was quieter than my current 05 vert with the top up. My 05 vert is quieter than my 07 impala daily driver.
Well only you can make that distinction, but if you search the forums you'll find most account the vert as much quieter.
I would imagine this to be because the vert puts the rear wheel wells behind the trunk firewall, while the coupe does not. Also the angle of the coupe's back window channels road noise forward to the driver.
Went from coupe to vert and Vert is WAY quieter in terms of tire and exhaust noise. Overall much more "padded" and quiet "cocoon" like sound and feel in the Vert. There is a bit more wind noise though at higher speed with the Vert.
No. There is significantly less noise in a vert (with top up) than the coupe.
:Ok Beethoven
My convertible was nosier than chit until I added two layers of dynomat throughout car (3 @ rear wheel wells-2 inside-one outside) and a rear cargo mat.Oh and Tuesday @ 5pm I am being tested for hearing aids.
I wonder if I had normal hearing how bad the noise would be? :
I have an 05 with Flow Masters. Drone is a real problem if you put the engine on a pull at a higher gear. If I run it in a lower gear and at higher rpm, drone goes away. If anyone has a solution to this let me know. I heard that I may be able to put some type of baffle in the pipes and it will cut the resonance, but, I am getting into an area that I know nothing about. In answer to the original post: When I take the top off - no drone at all. Hum, wonder why?
Erwin
Change your H pipe to an X pipe and it will knock the drone way way down.
Yes there was drone on both the verts and the coupes. Maybe not as bad on the vert. If you have a manual trans, just shift out of the drone zone, no big deal. If you have an auto, well......sol.
Factory exhaust, no or minimal drone on either. Three C 5 and C6 Verts and aftermarket drone at 1500 to 1700 rpm, slight with B&B and Corsa Sport. The best is Corsa Sport. minimal drone at that rpm range. magnaflow on modified 2000 vert, loud at 1500 to 2000 rpm. The cure was go to a lower gear.
My '09 vert is quieter than the '09 coupe a friend of mine has, we went back and forth listening and we both agreed the vert was more quiet. Same basic mods, exhaust and tires ...

Uh, automatics are easily shifted to a different gear too.
Everyone makes their own choices; but to me, needing to shift to a different gear because of drone means you have the wrong exhaust on the car for you. Our personal choice is NPP with MTW.
Your car, your money, your choice.
I have a vert with auto. I am cammed with long tube headers and x-pipe. I had NPPs and have recently switched to B&B Fusions. Drone was absolutely horrible with the NPPs from 1200 RPM to about 1700 RPM. With Fusions, it is still absolutely horrible but the RPM range seems a bit narrower; 1400 - 1600 or so. On a stock engine maybe a vert is quieter but with mods, the drone will absolutely kill your ears if the mufflers are open. All this is with a layer of Dynamat extreme and a Dynamat sound deadening pad in the back. Neither of these additions seemed to help. YMMV.

My vert is cammed, headers, etc also - no drone whatsoever. It's all in how the exhaust system is tuned (or not.) I use Dynomax exhaust. Very gutsy, no drone.
