Default Why does a convertible cost more than the Coupe?

From 1963 (first Corvette Coupe) to 1975 (last Corvette convertible till 1986) the Coupe was more expensive than the Convertible. Since 1986 the Convertible has been not only more expensive than the Coupe... but much more. I could understand this if after production the car was sent out to be converted! However...this is not the case!

I'm 61, 185 lbs., work out every day, owned a 2006 vert when I was 59, and based on your stupid response, I'm betting I could kick your ****. Meet me in the parking lot. And remember, us old farts don't take prisoners.

Seriously, that is a totally inane response... (If you don't know what inane means, which I'm sure you don't, Google "inane")

Some of the cost is in engineering, some in the mechanism, motors, servos, hydraulics, computer, materials, etc.

After the long duration of years without a vert, I think that convertibles became "more desirable", therefore they could charge more for them!!!

Buy a Coupe. Roof comes off. That's good enough for me.
And cheaper.

I don't know why. Sorry.

I dont know why either, but I like the traga top better anyway. And I do not have to replace the canvase top like you do on a convertable.

Example: 2005 Coupe base price...$44,245................. 2005 convertible base price $52,245

That's exactly 8 big ones and that's a manual top ,,add another $1995 for the power top!

I really doubt that its much more expensive. Its kind of like the Automatic v the Manual tranny. Not to long ago the Auto was standard and we were charged more for the Manual. Now, its the Manual is standard and the Automatic is more. It really does not make much sense. Its just Chevrolet being Chevrolet...

A smooth, painted hardtop looks sooooooo sweet.
Brings the C6 lines to life.

Probably true, I got one, I am 60, somewhat overweight, and can afford it. So?

I've alway wanted a corvette, even when i was 30, fit, but couldn't afford it.

i don't know about that, i got a 2LT manual convertible top. no motors, servo's, hydraulics, still more expensive.

not sure why i didn't just get a coupe and remove the top. for some reason, i just wanted the vert! wanted something like a motorcycle, only safer and my wife can ride along comfortably and we can talk

I have been driving Corvettes since 1972. I am on #28 now. They have all been Coupes with one Convertible exception. As I was driving the Convertible home I had a really bad feeling. I though it will grow on me. After 4 months of the Convertible I traded it in. I went back to a Coupe. Its just a matter of Personal Preference for each of us. Funny thing about driving a Coupe. It seems that when I travel with my Corvette Club friends I seem to be carrying what they cant get into there Convertible trunk areas. I am a Coupe Person. And I would love to have a ZR1 but since they currently wont put the Automatic in a ZR1 I guess I wont spend the ZR1 money. Lets see, Cadillac puts the Automatic in the CTS V but Chevrolet wont put the Auto in the ZR1. There must be a reason but if so, I dont know. I even hear the new Camaro ZL1 will have the Automatic option....
