Power to Backup Camera
About three months ago I installed a back up camera. It is wireless, except for power. I tapped into the back up lights around the license plate for power and to turn the camera on and off. Ground is to a ground. Everything worked great for a few months. Then every so often the display would turn on as if the car was placed in reverse. Traveling at speed it is not likely (did not) that car was in reverse. At first I attributed this to possibly another car next to me transmitting a video signal but today at a stop light it came on and indeed I saw the car behind me. This is very odd. Do you guys think I have a problem with the reverse switch intermittently closing and supplying power to the backup lights and the rear facing wireless camera? I guess the only way to tell is to remove the camera and run a bulb into the car so I can see if the lights get power at the wrong time. I haven’t heard about the backup switch going bad in this fashion.

Try a new ground or clean the one you are using now. Are there any other wires using that ground, like the a brake light or something? Could be power back through the ground wire.

The lock pick 360-2 I have in my car has a camera option that activates when you put the car in reverse. You might want to look at the install instructions for that product to see where they tap into the car if you continue to have problems with your current setup.
