Default RCDL + BCM = problems

Hello,

I recently posted a challenge with NO FOB DETECTED. I brought my car to the dealer and now they're throwing parts at it. They replaced the RCDL & BCM, cleaned some corroded connections, and now they want to take my steering wheel off to replace something else. They claim if this does not work that they will need to take the dash apart and replace an additional module.

The dealer claims that this is the process of elimination and I have to pay for all this work. Does this sound correct? Also, when they installed the RCDL & BCM they claim that it is programmed to my car and the parts cannot be returned.

05 manual C6

Any help would be much appreciated!

Thank you

Throwing parts at is exactly what they are doing. Many years ago I had a Ford that they did that on until they found the right part. I talked to the service manager and told him I shouldn't have to pay for there time and parts that were not required. He's comment was we have learned if the main problem goes bad the other parts will fail soon. I told him that was BS and he knew it as well as I did. There is no reason a dealer should do this. I only paid for what the main problem was. I would have a chat with the service manager and come to some kind of understanding. Did you change the batteries in the fob?

After installing the RCDLR there are several steps that reprogram several components including the fobs.

My personal experience with this was.
1. fobs would work for unlocking doors etc.
2. Would only start the car when a fob was inserted in the glove box slot.
3. Replaced RCDLR which is located behind heater vents above radio.
4. Took to a friends shop for flashing and programming.

Took over a half hour for programming. If they don't do this correct it will be just like having a bad RCDLR.

I spoke with the service director and he claims that these are the steps they need to take in order to resolve the issue. I did get him to reduce the parts by 20%... what a guy! I have not given him permission to proceed yet, in hopes of someone on this form to find a loop-hole or take my business elsewhere.

You are certainly out of warranty, so let's set a basic approach. 1) No FOB detected. 2) Why? and what will this cost 3) Abide by that estimate - before ANY work is done.

If they cannot handle that then go to another service right away.

Contact GM and complain ... then keep complaining. Sorry, wish I could fix it for you ...

The main problem was no FOB DETECTED. I replaced the batt in FOB and car. The car won't start with the FOB in glove box and won't respond to the reprogramming via the trunk key hole. The car is brain dead and won't respond to any thing.

Are you sure you placed the new fob battery correctly? Don't laugh because it will go in upside down and it won't work that way. There have been several similar threads about no fob detected and the bottom line was the battery was no replaced correctly.

yeah, I replaced it with the direction of the + mark. I also tried a back up FOB (unprogrammed) from my house.

Update: Both the BCM and RCDL were added by the stealer in a desperate attempt to fix my car. I brought my car to a second stealer who uncovered that the NO FOB DETECTED issue was the direct result of a faulty radio. When they unplugged the radio the car functions fine. What I don't understand is why it did not blow a fuse or why the radio was working fine up to this point. Also, I've never added any aftermarket devices (iPod adapters) to my head-unit or wrenched on it whatsoever.

I’m going to pick my car up tonight and hopefully everything is resolved! I hope my $2000 challenge helps someone out in the future.

Another one to add to the list under ‘NO FOB DETECTED’, faulty head unit.

Can you elaborate on what a ‘Class 2 Bus’ is? I’ve never heard of this before. Thank you!

It's a crowded, noisy bus that makes a lot of stops in undesirable neighborhoods.

Just kidding, it's how some of the electronics in the car communicate with each other. The experts will give you more details.
