Windshield Polish
My windshield is full of little marks like it was sand blasted or something. Seems impossible to get my windshield clean on the outside. Any products out there specifically made to polish the glass?
Thanks in advance--eddie
Sounds like you got sand blasted with highway debris. It probably is already past saving. I would go to a glass shop and show them your windshield. They can tell you if it can be polished out.
If you have pits the windshield is done. If you have scratches contact Autogeek for some Diamondite glass polishing compound. From how you have described the damage to us, replacement may be the only option. If you have head-up display the WS is very expensive.

Thanks, It is more like pitting so looks like I'm just going to have to live with it. I refuse to buy these cars and let them set, guess this is just part of the experience, like the Corvette tax, creaking tops, temperamental batteries, etc, etc. Still love it though!!eddie

I have it too.. but i use Zaino glass polish anyway..it removes any debris that might settle down in the pits and the only time you notice them is when the sun hits it directly with driving into the sun...

As mentioned, you can get glass polishing kits, but if the scrape catches your finger nail, probably beyond trying. I have such a kit, with a drill mounted wheel and jewlers rouge you mix up to a paste. Buffing out even the lightest scratches takes some elbow grease, so probably best letting a detail shop handle it.

or follow dump trucks on the interstate and wait for the BLAM and get insurance to replace the windshield no charge..... trouble is.. you might get more done than just to the windshield.......

So what makes the WS so expensive if you have the HUD? How much is expensive????
Replacing it doesn't help. That's also a temporary fix. It's just gonna happen again. I've learned to live with mine but will try some compound since it doesn't feel deep.
before you try polishing etc... I thought I had the same problem with my new Ram pickup - glass cleaner etc wouldn't take it off - I used windex to keep it wet and a straight razor ... it took off the tiny little dots that I thought was 'sandblasted'... just keep it wet while using a NEW razor... now the windshield is clear as a bell.
Products like our DP Glass Restorer are light polishes meant to clean glass well and prep for a protectant like Aquapel. It wont remove pitting but removes other contaminents on glass that make it less transparent.
If you truly want to polish glass, you need a product with cerium oxide in it. We should have some in the CarPro line soon. Also the Diamondite Resurfacing Cream has it. (out of stock currently). These are best used by professionals.

Same here. We've had 3 new Corvettes (two were summer-only cars), every one of them had a pitted/sandblasted effect that was visible, when looking into the sun, by 10k miles. And it slowly gets worse over time, though the degradation with additional miles is less noticable.
Live with it, or replace it. I think replacement some time between 50k and 100k miles would be about right.
