I am getting ready to install a lockpick barcam221 on my 06 coupe.
Does anyone have any tips or tricks for this? Where is the best place to gain access into the rear cargo area? I have tried the search for rear camera install to no avail.
Thanks!
I did this exact install on my 06 coupe several years ago. I recall the camera install was pretty easy.
From the front I came down the center console, across the back of the passenger area under the rug, down the passenger side of the back, across the back to the center. I drilled a hole in the plastic at the back of the inside of the car. I think this was about a ½ inch hole to get to the back of the car. From the outside I ran the wire in the holes next to the license lights.
I did the same thing as kellf190 (only with the CoastalETech minicam) into the lockpick. CoastalETech included a video (which I believe is also on their FTP) which shows their installation. There's 4 big plastic screws in the carpeted panel in the rear cargo area; I removed those to give me enough clearance to drill the hole in the inner material. Be careful, your drill will go through this QUICKLY!
To get the camera cable into the car from the outside, I unscrewed one of the license plate lamps, moved it aside, and fished a wire from the hole I drilled on the inside to the empty space where the license plate lamp was. I pulled the camera cable up and re-mounted the license plate lamp. Caution: it's easy to lose it inside the inner cavity! Plan ahead.
