I would like to use the Camaro rearview mirror and a camera in the Corvette. The Onstar button is there along with anything else we have. It should be a matter of installing the Camaro camera, harnes and the mirror. maybe the other connectors are identical in both cars. Anybody from the parts department please chime in. Also the Camaro has a remote start. Maybe the parts would be compatible with an automatic Corvette?
It can be done. It is a matter of getting a custom harness for the mirror, that has the additional wiring for the camera and then using a GM camera. I have a 2010 Camaro SS and it didn't come with one. Over on the Camaro forum one of the gentleman there has a complete GM kit with a harness and a GM camera. I installed it in my car. I can't say it was the most fun experience in my life, but man is it awesome now that it is installed and it works! So, yes, it can be done, but just need a custom harness.
How "not fun" was it? Do you have a link for the guy? Thanks!
It is just the fact as I am extremely picky, so I had to remove some stuff to run the wires from the front to back. And I don't know how it would mount in the Corvette, but in the Camaro I had to cut a hole in the rear bumper for it to come out, lol. Mine looks totally factory. When you're standing in the rear and looking down you can't even really tell there is a camera there. And in the new Camaro ZL1, it is in the same exact spot and looks exactly the same.
I'm sure he may work on it for you guys. His name is Ofer and his screen name on the www.camaro5.com forum is 2SSRS.

Gene, the new Camaro comes with a rearview camera package on top of the backup sensors I think. A similar system is in a Chevy Traverse and the Buick. They all have On Star so I thought it would be relatively easy to use the mirror with the monitor, the wires going to the back of the car and a camera that comes with the system. I'm sure the cables for Camaro would be plenty long for the Corvette. If there is a connector difference it is a minor technicality cause I;m pretty sure it would be just a matter to connect the Camaro onstar mirror button to Corvette Onstar. It is probably just a single wire going from the onstar button to the module to turn it on. I don't think it is linked with the backup camera.
Gene, when you get a chance lookup the cost of the mirror, wires and a camera for the new Camaro. You can run a survay on the forum and ask if people would be interested in buying the parts. I would be the first guy to send you the money.
Gene, strike a deal with Ofer to make harnesses for Corvette or just to make a kit to utilize the 2012 Camaro video package for the Corvette. I've read the whole thread and the Camaro guys are crazy about it. It works well.
Yeah it's not as easy as it looks to just use another harness. In mine he has a custom harness and one of the lines is getting power from the mirror to the actual camera. And then the other wire is for turning the camera on when the vehicle is below 12 MPH I think.
I'm sure he can do it.... it is just custom harness and mount and all.
The original 2010 Camaro, like mine, had no sensors or Camera. Mid 2010 they had sensors. The 2011's had sensors with the hole in the bumper for the camera, but no camera yet. The 2012's have the camera and no sensors.
Ofer also has a setup where he can do a camera in the rear with a switch to do a camera in the front, which is even more important for you Corvette guys and the splitters.
