It's been awhile since I removed mine. If I'm not mistaken, though, the trim plate (to which the buttons are attached) just prys out; it's held in place solely by friction and it's not necessary to remove the interior door panel. Just be careful to not damage the plate as you pull it out.
Me personally I'd remove door panel to figure out why it came loose.
To remove door panel on Drivers side there are 2 bolts that "LOCK" it in place and they are below the handle behind a hideaway plate. Pry back the plate and you'll see the bolts. I believe 10 MM? Once you get the 2 bolts off you can feel at the bottom of the door there is an indention. You can use something to pry (wrapped up flat head if you dont have the plastic tools). You'll hear alot of clicking and popping. Once you get it pulled back enough then reach your hand in the space and start pulling back all the way around the door untill you you get it pulled back. You'll see that all the clicking and popping were the white retaining clips that hold the door in place. Now comes the hard part. while holding the door pull back on the release on harness with other hand and seperate the door form the harness. Now you can see what's truly keeping the window switches from latching in place and a good time to do anythink else you wanted to, to the behind the door area.
For Reinstall - I recommend rolling the window down first.
plug the door back into the harness. Line up the front into the grooves first then slowly line up rear. If all turns out well then the white retaining clips should fairly well line up. Ball your hand up in a fist and slowly tap around the outside of the door where the clips are to have them go in place. Put bolts back in and retaining clip back over bolt cover.
(Passengers Side) - Door removal.
Pretty much the same as Drivers door except bolt locations. One is behind the door release button, just put it out and you'll see the retaining bolt and the other is below the handle you'll feel the indention under it.
